You are wise to recognize the connection with stress, anxiety, and especially negative thinking about sleep. These negative thougts are often the raw fuel that perpetuates and prolongs insomnia. You can learn how to turn off that negative thinking, and indeed turn it around. Sleep tends to improve as a result, sometimes very quickly.
The gold standard is CBT -- cognitive behavioral therapy specifically designed for insomnia. CBT is a combination of methods that enables you to re-think the idea of sleep to your advantage, as well as address bad sleep habits.
Try an internet search using terms like cbt adult sleep training methods or similar, and you will find many resources. Good luck.
