Insomnia is a symptom, rather than a disease, and is characterized by inadequate quantity or quality of sleep. People with insomnia complain of difficulty falling or staying asleep, which results in significant impairment of daytime functioning. What I did about 3 weeks ago was to suffer a totally sleepless night to get over the rebound insomnia then I managed to sleep naturally and well. That was the last really good night's sleep I remember but I have since stuck to it. In fact I am writing this at 4am. I can't sleep, it's the 3rd night in a row it has been so bad but you know what I really am not stressed. I will survive and maybe tomorrow will be a better night.
So just try and not worry about not sleeping but I know exactly how you feel. And no you're not alone.
This is what happens to a lot of people with insomnia: your insomnia starts to go away and you feel relieved. But one night you have trouble falling asleep and you get nervous thinking "oh no, is it back?". And that thought keeps you up and causes more anxiety and frustration, which can continue to following nights.
I don't know if thats what happened to you, but if you feel like it is then try to remember that EVERYONE has trouble sleeping sometimes. Even non-insomniacs take a few hours to fall asleep every now and then, it just doesn't bother them because they don't fear insomnia like we do.
My doctor said lots of patients get this, and he says the best thing to do is pop a pill, get yourself through that night, then shrug your shoulders and not let it bother you. He says usually when this happens the insomnia isn't "back", its just anxiety.
I'm sure you will be ok! If you've been sleeping well since thanksgiving thats a long time and prooves that you can sleep well. Good luck!
