Part of the issue with insomnia is the negative thinking that at least in part fuels it. A great example of that is just your belief that "nothing works". If you examine that belief rationally, I think you'll come to the conclusion that is simply not true.
It will help you a lot to learn as much as you can about the reality of sleep and human performance. This might be something to discuss with your counselor/therapist, as it would not be surprising to see a connection between your insomnia and other psychiatric issues.
You might also ask about cbt sleep training methods designed for adults. These are the gold standard for treating insomnia. And be confident that by getting the help you need, plus making the effort you need, you can in fact make this better.
