Insomnia Support Group
Insomnia is a symptom, rather than a disease, and is characterized by inadequate quantity or quality of sleep. People with insomnia complain of difficulty falling or staying asleep, which results in significant impairment of daytime functioning. Insomnia is categorized as transient (shorter than one week), short-term (one to three weeks) or chronic (longer than three...
It was the hardest decision I ever made, but also (in hindsight) the best and I credit that 1 week stay with helping me end my insomnia cycle. I've been in remission from insomnia ever since and that was over 2 years ago.
One of the best things going inpatient did was break all my habits and routines that were keeping me stuck. It was such a huge culture shock to be in a new environment, new routine, new meds, new doctors, new therapists, new people, that I think my body and mind were exhausted from all the change, and finally let go. It was sort of like that old saying "Nothing changes if nothing changes"
Of course before I went inpatient I had tried everything - therapy, CBT I, meds, support groups, but I was stuck in my own mind and just a repetitive cycle and doing something drastically different really helped.
I needed the extra support of being inpatient - the help of support groups all day, the staff available 24/7 so if I couldn't sleep there was someone I could talk to and problem solve with, daily meetings with a psychiatrist to adjust meds.
The other beneficial part was not having to worry about cooking, cleaning, etc...all the daily life stuff is taken care of...you just focus on you.
If you are considering inpatient, truly consider it. It may help.
Wishing you peace <3
I start a new med tonight for my OCD and anxiety. It may or may not help me sleep.
I will be checking in with my pyschiatrist next week.
I am not ruling out an inpatient stay.
I have been trying to nap all day but just lay there frustrated totally unable to sleep.
I did have a sleep study done a few years ago but all that it determined was that I suffer from broken sleep which I kind of already knew.I actually had hundreds of small wakenings during the night there.
They did nothing to help me.
Thank you both again.
