It would not be surprising if the trauma you experienced affected your sleep. Be confident the care you have had, including the drug therapy and counseling, will help.
Regarding sleep, if you are getting up consistently at 5 a.m. why not just go with it? Maybe back out 8 hours, or however much time you normally sleep, and set that as your consistent bed time and see how you do.
