Sleep is actually a moving target that changes throughout life. As you age, particularly as you get into middle age, the amount of total time asleep and REM dream sleep is reduced. This by itself is no defect, it is to be expected. It's normal and happens to us all.
Given your medical/psychiatric history, if this continues to be a problem you should see your doc. It is possible that adjustments in your meds will help.

waking up too early is the worst, I would take difficulties FALLING asleep over difficulties STAYING asleep any day of the week. Of course, not having any difficulties at all would be the preferred option. :)
You said you have some more things going on with your social life than usual. For me my work, although mostly not too stressful, makes a huge (negative) difference. When I was on holiday I slept fine every night, and now that school started (I'm a teacher) - awake at the middle of the night again. I was actually going to make a new post, but saw yours and decided to reply to it instead.
Hypnos is right, the only thing we can do is to try not to worry too much. You said it has only lasted for 2-3 weeks, that's not a lot of time, I think it will pass by itself, no need for doctors.
