Insomnia is a symptom, rather than a disease, and is characterized by inadequate quantity or quality of sleep. People with insomnia complain of difficulty falling or staying asleep, which results in significant impairment of daytime functioning. Insomnia is categorized as transient (shorter than one week), short-term (one to three weeks) or chronic (longer than three...
When people hear "insomnia" they automatically think you must be a pscyho somehow or you must be an anxiety or depression patient.
Then they try to force feed that bs cbt down your throat.
I'm doing well too. In my case, I did/do have depression. Now that it is under control with medication, I sleep much better. I wish I would have figured out sooner what the heck was wrong with me. The sleep doctors instructed me in CBT and it helped in the short term but they could not tell me why my sleep was so unfreshing/short. It amazes me how complex our brains are......and thus the myriad of ways insomnia can present it's ugly head!
CBT is designed to address thoughts and behaviors that cause insomnia. It will not address underlying medical conditions. It isn't intended to.
If you have CFS or any other medical condition causing insomnia, you must treat that. Then you can expect sleep to improve.
If you have no medical problem but are stressed out about the idea of sleep, or you have bad sleep habits, CBT can be a very effective solution. Works for me.
I tried all sorts of sleep drugs for years and nothing worked. Finally I learned about CBT and I'm glad I did. Today I use CBT methods most every day. They are natural and drug free and for me the best way to go.
Everyone seems to automatically push CBT and dismiss ALL other causes. Like I said CBT is great if it really is just in your head.
The CFS study at Stanford medical was done using anti-viral. I doubt any doctor outside of Stanford would prescribe it to you.
For me, I spoke with a nutritionist and I targeted specific symptoms. Example, I took a little bit of L-glutamin to help recover. I took a little bit of 5HTP to help me sleep. Stuff like that. It took years but slowly I did recover.
