Some insomniacs can't sleep in their own bed, but fall asleep no problem in a motel, in a tent, on the couch, in a big chair ...anywhere but their own bed, which has that subconscious association.
If you want to sleep in your bed, you should resist the urge to sleep anywhere else. If you're on the couch/chair/wherever and you start to feel drowsy, head to your own bed. Eventually you will sleep and in your own bed too. Then the conditioned response becomes associated where you want it.
