I recall posting here one time about the temptation of "revenge" affairs. Though I've never seriously considered one, I could see the mindset that would go there. "Hey, its already messed up. Now I'm free to get what I want and she can say nothing about it."
But more than I expected responded that this temptation was there. And some have no doubt given into it.
