Infidelity Support Group
Any relationship in which one partner engages willfully in sexual relations with another outside of the partnership is considered to have experienced infidelity. This breach of trust is often traumatizing for the faithful partner as well as the relationship, and support is often needed to heal emotionally and to decide whether or not the relationship should continue after...
St. John's might work ( although it decreases the effective properties of birth control)
Valerian root will only make you sleepy
I also grew up in a country where herbal medicine is just as common as traditional evidence based medicine .
Valerian root IMO is best used as a solution in drops or pills. At least you can measure the does in grams. It does have a calming effect, but it also is a potent vasodilator and can drop your blood pressure.
I would recommend using it in combination with chamomile.
There is a supplement 5-HTP that regulates mood and sleep, which is plant derived but it has potential to cause serious effects on liver and blood.
L-lysine is an essential amino acid which has effects on proper brain chemistry. This one is good to take as directed. We all can use it.
Vitamin D - have your levels checked because low vit D can cause more depression symptoms than you normally would have.
Vitamin B complex - also really good to have, as it raises energy levels and has a good effect on all body systems.
I have taken these supplements and had good results with them for a little while.
Eventually I decided to get real drugs because I d rather read the label and know exactly what to expect.
For anxiety and sleep you can be prescribed benzodiazepines such as Xanax. You take it as needed and it is out of your system in a couple of hours. It definitely works well for crying spells.
It does nothing for long term.
Antidepressants: The simplest drugs are SSRIs - selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. They work by keeping the happiness hormone in the brain longer than it should. They are aimed to calm you, make you feel more stable emotionally.
There are other drugs too for antidepressants, but doctors usy start with those.
Sleeping pills - again, temporary solution to the sleepless nights.
Benzos and sleeping pills are addictive if used long term.
This is why going to therapy is really important.
I would no start any herbal supplements until you speak with your doc because they can interfere with other drugs and if you have any underlying medical problems they can make things worse.
A specialist will monitor you better, like a doctor of nutrition specializing in holistic medicine.
There is a lot more, but I just wanted to tell you about some .
P.S. - legal drugs also have side effects which can be just as bad or just as minimal as from the herbals.
I personally prefer the drugs because I get consistent effect when/if I need it. Thankfully, I am no longer in need of anything.
Good luck and I hope you feel better!
I'll try taking St.Johns and valerian for a week and see if it makes any change. I took both of them last night, and I did sleep well. But now again I'm crying and feel bad. I'm meeting my doc this week to get tested for STDs, so I'll ask these questions. I already take Melatonin cos I have insomnia, and it has worked well on me. I did not take melatonin last night. I think Valerian did the job well.
I woke up today with a headache, but I don't know if it was cos of the crying or the heater running all night or the pills. A tylenol fixed it. I'll keep posting my experience here, maybe it can help someone.
St. Johns: I don't know if its working or if its me, But since I've started to take it, i don't cry that often. But I am taking it only in morning and afternoon, so evening when I go back to work, I again start crying. I think my mood is better cos of St.Johns, but looks like it only works for a few hours. Also the prescrition suggests to be taken 3 times a day. So I think it's helping.
Valerian Root: I suffer from insomnia, and I used to take Melatonin pills (5mg) very night, and I used to have a tough time sleeping if I wake up in the middle. Since i've started taking Valerian, i stopped Melatonin, cos i don't want to overdose or make myself over-sleepy. Until now Valerian puts me to better sleep than Melatonin. Even when I wake up in the middle of the night for the bathroom, I fall asleep immediately. I take Valerian and St.Johns together at night. So Valerian is working for me to sleep well. No vivid dreams for me. Infact i can't even rememebr any ddream.
Both don't need prescriptions, and are available over the counter in walgreens, CVS. If someone is considering any of these pills, I hope this helps. I spoke to my counselor that i'm taking St.Johns and he said its known to help elevate mood for depression and its safe.
I then switched to Cymbalta. LOVE IT! Wish I had know about it years earlier. The only thing I like better are Snickers bars!
