I suppose the ideal thing would be to have her institutionalised for a couple of months so she can get the constant help, and guidance she so desperately needs and come back to the family
' clean' . But I suppose like you said, the health care system has not yet caught up with this. So what can you do? I suggest you weigh the options. Sometimes love must be tough. Where do you see you and your children next 2, 3, or even 5 years down the road if you remain in this situation. Will you be better off or worse off? This lady loves her children I'm sure but is this really a healthy environment for them? Will the love for her destroy you and your children in the process? Only you can judge that. I'm praying for you.
I bet your kids' maternal grandparents are ill, too. It's not "contagious;" it's hereditary (as opposed to genetic).
Call social protective services and ask for help, or you are dooming your kids. Sorry to sound so grim, but you need to comprehend the severity of your situation.

If the home is uninhabitable then I hope you will agree that your kids are better off elsewhere until a resolution can be reached. It is one thing for you to choose to live this way, another for your kids to be dragged through it. Living in hoarding conditions is no doubt already affecting their self esteem, inhibiting their ability to socialize in healthy ways, and causing them stress and probably depression.
Your kids need your help and you don't have the tools or clarity to provide it. Please follow the above link and ask for help.
