As betrayedtodeath said, there are lawyers who will not charge for an initial consultation.
You have rights as a spouse. I do not think it matters that the car is in his name. No court is going to leave you without a car and him with two. Find out what your rights are where you live.
Yes, you do need to squirrel away money. You can buy things with a debit card, then return them, and they have to give you cash. Sometimes you can buy stuff at the grocery store, clip coupons, take your receipt to customer service, present the coupons and they will give you cash. It all starts to add up. Sell stuff on Ebay - his stuff, of course! Paypal is a good place to hide money.
It's unlikely your H would check to see if you have an account.
You need a friend you can rely on. Choose carefully. Start removing things from the house and hiding them with your friend.
Your H is abusive and dangerous. He is a serious threat to you and your children. But you do have to act like things are "normal" so your H does not catch wind of what you are up to.
Good luck!
If you truly have the desire to leave him, there is always a way, but you have to do the work, no one will come and rescue you. To do it effectively, you'll have to be all in, get a plan going, and stick to it. There's no going back once you get this ball rolling.
I would also advise you get a free consultation with a lawyer to discover what your rights are and what you're entitled to. Take a friend or sibling with you, it helps to have two sets of ears to hear and remember everything the lawyer says.
Speaking to people in private and asking for their help can empower you and give you a sense of control over your destiny.
It may seem like a lot to handle since you'll have to be the one to get the ball rolling, but small and focused steps will eventually lead to success and freedom.
I wish you well.
