Infidelity Support Group
Any relationship in which one partner engages willfully in sexual relations with another outside of the partnership is considered to have experienced infidelity. This breach of trust is often traumatizing for the faithful partner as well as the relationship, and support is often needed to heal emotionally and to decide whether or not the relationship should continue after...

They can also be a minimization of a full PA/EA.
I haven't experienced cheating by PA, to my knowledge, but I know an EA is devastating. He is giving something to another woman that you probably need from him...he is putting in the effort to communicate with her, flirt with her, and run to her in times of trouble. All of these things NOT shared with a spouse can be devastating to a marriage. I know...I lived it.
We have been divorced since December. I don't necessarily fault him for the total end of our marriage, but I no longer solely blame myself for problems either. I wish he had turned out to be the decent, honorable man I thought he was, but I know I can't turn back the clock. I would rather be 31 and divorced then 41, going through this mess ten additional years, and still end up divorced. theoretically, He wasn't much of a man...he avoided problems in our marriage by selfishly having an emotional affair.
I said that is just it. You THOUGHT you loved her. I told him his feelings for her were nothing more than infatuation. If he really loved her then he would be with her now not me. So why should I be so upset about something that wasn't even real? But the sex was VERY real and so hard to deal with.
Either way, sometimes the marriage ends. If he falls in love with another woman or gives his body to someone else. Some things just can;t be forgiven. And if he really loves this other woman how can he be the H you deserve? He needs to ask himself some tough questions.
:(
This sucks
And if all it was about was what he felt and what he felt wasn't real I might feel differently. But the way he treated me when he THOUGHT he loved the OW, was real. The disrespect, the lack of loyalty, the neglect, the indifference, the disregard, and the downright cruelty and abuse I experienced because my H THOUGHT he loved her was very real. If the way he treated me had never changed while he was having the affair I might feel differently, but the truth is that our sex life was still incredible, but the way he treated me was pretty awful.
I was not treated very good at all while he THOUGHT he was in love. So everything that you said went along with that is so true!
He had an EA that turned into a PA and he used being away for military duty to hide it.
I see that he cheated in 2006. Now he has had a second emotional affair.
The problem with us military folks is that we do have to endure long separations from our spouses. They are also in close contact with others under "duress" as you said, which can lead to relationships building up - although there are many decent military people out there who are faithful.
The problem is now you have two affairs to deal with and a spouse who has a very real chance of being separated from you again due to deployment, etc.
In my case, we are still together, but the EA/PA almost killed me. And the EA is a lot more hurtful because he gave his heart to someone else, saying that I did not make him feel like I loved him anymore....HELLO? I have been managing our household, raising kids, and being faithful for two back-to-back deployments and I didn't make you feel loved?
But that said....he hid it behind military duties and I was totally trusting. There will never be a second chance for me if this ever happens again because I will not allow myself to constantly worry what he is doing when he is apart from the family.
I do send out my support to military families. The separations and reconnecting back after being a part for a year or longer can be hell. I have seen many friends succeed over the years with this lifestyle but I have seen others crash and burn.
I hope you can get some good individual and martial counseling.
