Infidelity Support Group
Any relationship in which one partner engages willfully in sexual relations with another outside of the partnership is considered to have experienced infidelity. This breach of trust is often traumatizing for the faithful partner as well as the relationship, and support is often needed to heal emotionally and to decide whether or not the relationship should continue after...
1. 1%-10% of married men who have affairs end up leaving their spouses and marrying their affair partners.
2. Over 75% who marry partners they were in an affair with eventually divorce.
3. 80% of those who divorce during an affair regret the decision.
If you think that the handful out of a 100 who stay with their other affair partner are actually happy I think you'd have to shave off a few more points.
The thing is that contentment in life is about appreciating what you have and being able to look at yourself in the mirror and not feel ashamed.
By definition someone who goes with the whole "grass is greener" perspective is not someone who is content and has an un-fillable hole. As well, knowing the destruction to all the lives of people around them including their children will always weight on their souls. They may justify and tell themselves that they are good people with a asterisk attached, but the mark remains.
As well, unhealthy people can't exist in a healthy relationship. Both need to be healthy or it become co-dependent at best. Adulterers are quite unhealthy in perspective and character. Each would and should be wary of the other partner doing to same to them in the future when the relationship becomes stagnant.
Even if both somehow in the distant future both cheaters repented too late and decided to stay together because the spouses didn't want them back, the shadow of the destruction they caused would rob them of much joy.
