Infidelity Support Group
Any relationship in which one partner engages willfully in sexual relations with another outside of the partnership is considered to have experienced infidelity. This breach of trust is often traumatizing for the faithful partner as well as the relationship, and support is often needed to heal emotionally and to decide whether or not the relationship should continue after...
But when it comes to triggers, there are some common threads. I believe it's called "paired association", much like Pavlov's dogs.
For me, it was necessary to ask questions repeatedly, until I felt comfort, even if those questions made me feel poorly, insecure, and/ or trigger pain, discomfort, and lose sleep.
Now, fortunately, two years later (and 3 months), I don't seem to have too many triggers. Movies, songs, and things I come across randomly have very minor impact. The main triggers I have are:
If I talk with a DS friend about something, specifically, and it totally concurs with what my H did! For example, in my case, it was supposedly an emotional affair, yet their were other red flags (in my mind) which may have indicated otherwise.
Today, for example, I was talking with a dear DS friend, and I almost lost it, as we were chatting! I could have confronted my H about it, and re-enacted World War III, or think about another time, in which I choose to bring it up. This is the beauty of time passing by. In the past, when it was so dang new, and raw, I could not help but bring it up immediately (react), whereas now, I decided I will have a choice in when I bring it up, how I choose to bring it up, and how eloquent I may be, and if I choose to bring it up, I can also decide it's not gonna end in a huge drama. Now I can state, I still question something (due to repeated denials of it ever becoming physical), but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it anymore, yet hope he may do a little more trickle truth.
Damn, how I hate the trickle truth, yet I would rather it come out in this delayed situation, then for it never to comeout at all. At this point, it's almost moot, due to his behaviors, and my decision tomove on with him, and rebuild. But theonly differnece is, I would tell him, "i told you so, I knew it all along". So my pride and ego would be one step higher, but my betrayal and trust factor may be 10 steps lower.
I've never been one to stick head in sand, or deny....
But if someone defends their position, and will continue to defend their position until they die ( my H for example), then are you gonna get any more truth, later???? REally????
I could react, like in the past, where I had little control, cuz emotions were overriding my intellect,
or
I could respond, where I take things into account, and decide how I want to respond, or not respond, or delay gratification of responding or searching for specifics.
Right now, I'm all about responding in life, and not reacting. this pretty much holds true for all situations, and especially conflicts in my life, with anyone!
Blondegal, thanks for your insigiht. I think I'm one of those mildly obsessive types as I'm finding myself asking the same questions repeatedly. It's as if I'm asking to verify the reality of what just happened to me. Some of the questions aren't coming up as often so I know stuff is sinking in.
I was loading up my phone with some music the other day and came upon our family photos. Soooo painful. I'm thinking I should hold off on doing that again until I'm feeling a little stronger. As of now, I've got a lot of poison to drain.
My car was a major trigger since that is where the physical stuff happened. I just got rid of the car and replaced it lol -trigger gone!
I did just come across a photo baby book I'd done for our son. Its one of those printed deals, so I can't just take his pictures out of it. Since he is now not involved with our child at all, I really think I should just get rid of all his photos, but then I know its not something I could replace if my son wants to see pictures of his sperm donor- so I keep them in an out of the way place I only come across if I am doing a major cleaning overhaul. Still not sure if I should keep them.
Sorry for going off tangent lol-Yes, you can get rid of some triggers! Some, will probably always be triggers, and you just deal with them the best you are able as they appear.
