Infidelity Support Group
Any relationship in which one partner engages willfully in sexual relations with another outside of the partnership is considered to have experienced infidelity. This breach of trust is often traumatizing for the faithful partner as well as the relationship, and support is often needed to heal emotionally and to decide whether or not the relationship should continue after...
This is a two part book. The first part is mine and Gabi's story. We mention the fact that we are on an online support group at Daily Strength as one of the routes of getting help in dealing with this. There are occasions I make general statements like, "from my experience, some BSs do or have this issue, others, this, etc."
But I never identify any screen names nor do I tell anyone else's stories as examples in the book. I even give fake names to Gabi's two local OMs (you'll love it: Clyde and Bubba). All the details are about our own story, and no one else's.
The second half of the book is the articles I've written. All but one can be found at http://www.dailystrength.org/groups/healing-infidelity-through-faith/news/
They've been edited for the book, with some minor additions, but no specific situations from the forum are mentioned, nor is anyone specifically mentioned, with one exception. I quote one person, from whom I'm currently getting her okay to mention her. If not, she'll be edited out. And even that one is obscure, not the full screen name. Other than that, no one from these forums is mentioned either by name or screen name or their story used as an example.
For the newer folk, some points to keep in mind.
1) The forums on DS are public. Anyone on the internet can view what you say here without becoming a member. Only your profile and journal entries can be made private to the whole world, but everything you say here is viewable to anyone in the world with a browser and internet access. That is why DS recommends you don't use your real name for a screen name. You don't want a prospective employer pulling this stuff up if they decide to do an internet search on you, for instance.
What that means is anyone who wants to can get your story if you've told it in this forum, and use it in a book or who knows what else. If you fear that, only tell your more personal information in a journal made private, and only mention in the forums what you don't mind some stranger getting ahold of.
2) Gabi and I have been members here since May 2010. We didn't just jump in to scrape info for a book. We're writing it in hopes what we've gone through and what we've learned these past almost 2 years going through this mess might help others. Though I don't post as often as I used to in the first year after I found out, I still poke my head in and try to help where I can. Call it paying it forward. But the folks who find this support group and get our help are only the tip of the iceberg. There are many that first look to find a book. Many, unfortunately, who don't seek any help and go it alone, hoping to survive.
Though there are many books on infidelity, most are written by case workers. Those are good, but we are taking a different approach. Not giving a bunch of case studies, but using our case as a way to breakdown how people end up in this mess and how they can heal it.
So that's the clarification. If anyone's privacy is going to be violated, it isn't going to be through me.
