My partner and I of 8 years have always had our ups and downs. Last summer, we reached a point where we pretty much had it!
He wanted to take sometime for "himself" and went off to Europe leaving me for 3 weeks on my own.
To make a long story short, I made a very very foolish mistake and had someone come back to our place and well...one thing led to another.
It has been over 3 months and to this day I feel extremley guilty. We have sort of had a "kissing is ok and flirting" thing but I took it a bit too far and I really really am sorry. I feel physically just thinking about what I have done not only to him, but to myself.
I really would love to be "honest" but really I feel like if I do say something, it is only passing on the burden to him to feel "my guilt".
I promise never ever to do this again. I am currently in councelling to deal with my feelings and really make the positive changes. I have stopped drinking. I feel like it was a great contributor but honestly, was not an excuse.
Even though he left, we did not communicate very well as to what was "acceptable" or not. Now that he is back and all "fine" I feel horrible.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to make things better?

Remember that you made this choice. He didn't.
Be prepared to face a lot of anger and frustration from him, as well as lots of questions and details he will no doubt want.
Be honest with him, it may be more difficult for you but he does deserve the truth.
