When I began to miscarry a second time, I absolutely wanted a D&C, but unfortunately, I was living out of the country at the time and couldn't get back to the States before it started. Friends who have had a D&C have said it was painless physically and much less torturous emotionally.
I was in a really dark place emotionally, and I just couldn't shake the sadness. My advice is to allow yourself to fully grieve the loss of the promise of this child. Go to the core of your sadness and sit with it. Wallow in it. Experience it at its deepest level so that you can fully heal and move on. It may be intense, but I think you will heal more fully if you are gentle with yourself and do not rush yourself.
For me, within a week I was back at work functioning on the outside like a normal human, but I was still broken inside. After about six weeks, the clouds began to part and I began to realize I could feel joy again. It took many months to truly accept the loss and heal from it, but each day got the tiniest bit better until one day I realized I was truly okay.
Don't try to make sense of it or find meaning in it right now. It's okay to just feel sad, angry, bitter. That's natural and is all a part of the grieving cycle. In time, you can try to make this experience mean something more, but for now, it's okay to just hurt.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I have had 4 m/c with the first one I had to get an D&C, it was my first surgery and it was so hard on my physically and mentally. It was painful and I bleed for several weeks after the surgery, plus I had to take pain killer that made me sick.
With the other 3 m/c's I was able to get rid of them naturally and it was so much easier on my both mentally and physically. As far as bleeding, it was quite heavy for the first couple of days them it slowed down, I bled for a total of 5 or 6 days. I was able to control the pain with over the counter pain meds, that don't make me sick!!
Emotionally you will feel every emotion there is from really pissed off to heart break! I, personally will never stop hurting from my losses, it gets easier and it soon you will begin to feel like yourself again, but for me I will always carry a small bit of grief from each loss. But it is a loss so take as long as you need to - to grieve your loss, you deserve that!! Again I am just so sorry!!!

The pain is hard to describe. At times it was almost like contractions with large clots and heavy blood loss. I'd suggest if at all possible to stay home when it begins just so you can rest and have privacy.
The mental pain is different for everyone. My 1st took me several months to get thru before I was able to think straight. It was a really dark and hard time. Each time after that is hard but Ive become somewhat used to the pain so I just deal with it. It sucks.
No matter what know that it is NOT your fault. You did NOTHING wrong. Make sure to take the time you need to heal and talk about it when you are ready. Hugs to you.
