I haven't posted here on a while but this week has really been hard for me. First and foremost I have PCOS which i lost weight to the point where I started to have my own periods,..going on about 7 years now. However, I thought that even though I was having my periods that I was not ovulating because if the PCOS. I guess I was wrong, i started to see this new RE that is pregnant *ugh* and she told me that by me having my own periods that im ovulating ..hmmm news to me! She also tells me that my PCOS is under control and now im dealing with unexplained infertility. So now I over came one obstacle to deal with another! i can't catch a break! I really feel like life is telling me no you are not meant to reproduce! I am sick and tired of trying to fight a battle that i feel like i can't win. Sorry for the rambling but I just never figured it would be this hard.

Hi Bamachic! Welcome back. I have been away for a while as well. and I too am dealing with unexplained infertility (8years). The RE cant find one single thing wrong. Take hope in the fact that you are atleast ovulating. I know that its disappointing every month to see that unwanted visitor, but I believe with you that one day we will both have good endings to our stories..... I know it sucks. and i really dont have this grand and/or fantastic thing to say. But im sending you lots of love and positive vibes!

I, too, have PCOS. I've been to a lot of doctors over the years. Sorry to say, but simply having your period (even regularly) does NOT automatically mean you're ovulating. I don't know why certain doctors buy into that myth. You need to be taking basil temps, checking cervical position and mucus, and charting it all to see if you are having symptoms of ovulation each cycle. (The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is excellent at explaining all this and I highly recommend it). It is very likely you aren't. I, too, assumed I was ovulating because my periods were regular, but it wasn't the case. Unfortunately with PCOS regular or irregular periods don't mean you're ovulating or not. If your estrogen isn't getting high enough to make you ovulate, you don't, but you still get your period because that has more to do with progesterone. It's all this fine tuned balance of hormones that has to happen for you to ovulate, not to mention get and stay pg. It took going to several doctors to finally find out that I also had a thyroid problem. Once my thyroid got up to within normal range, I started sporadically ovulating on my own. Still working on getting the PCOS to calm down so my hormones can get back within normal range so I am ovulating viable eggs regularly. It's a long process. I would recommend seeing another doctor and also look into getting your thyroid tested to rule that out, along with charting to see if you're having symptoms of ovulation. Best of luck to you!
