You should definatley get something in writing. My younger sister and her husband were going to go that route and ended up deciding against it because it is so much more expensive then to just use a sperm donor. You guys will have to go through counseling and everything using his brother. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

i agree with Karin. i know things seem great now, but you want to cover all your bases because who knows how feelings will change in the future. definitely speak to a lawyer and come up with some kind of contract. good luck hun!

Honestly I say don't even go there. So many issues could come up with this. What happens if somewhere down the road your child finds out his uncle is really the sperm dodor that created him that would turn out bad. I say something like that should be kept out of the family.

But, if you are going to move forward with it, definitely talk to an attorney to cover all of your bases. He may have to sign away rights to the baby.

I don't know, I think it sounds good. I was going to do the same thing if my hubby had sperm problems. It gives the man a biological tie to the child and can really help them to bond. But certainly see a lawyer first.

To protect yourself, your future child, and your husband... SEE A LAWYER and have something finalized and in writing. If things are truly "okay" with all the family right now, they should respect and understand this request.

I am glad you came to a decision. I am sure it was hard and one only you and DH can make.

But, I agree with the others. I would probably not use a family member but that is me. But, if you do then yes, you should have something legal in place prior to using it.

How nice it is to have a BIL that would donate sperm for you. First, talk to a lawyer. Then, lay your cards on the table and have a frank discussion about everyone's expectations about this. You guys should talk and discuss questions like, "will we tell our child that his biological father is his uncle?" "How many other family members will know?" "Does this child have a right to know that thier uncle is their biological father." Everyone may be excited now about a baby. However, your baby will eventually grow up and become an adult.
