Hi! I feel for you bc I myself was in a similar predicament. Is is Endo? I have stage IV endometriosis and had 2 laparaoscopies last year alone. In my case, I got my first lap. to see how bad my endo got. During that surgery the docs saw that my right tube was literally black and was destroyed, but they could not remove it without consent because I was asleep. I then had to go back in for a second lap 2 months later to remove it. They ended up leaving my left one because it was healthy at that time, but the HSG showed a blockage since. It isn't destroyed like my other tube was, so I haven't made the decision to have it removed yet, because of that little bit of hope that maybe someday a miracle will happen. So I know how you feel. But yes, it does make a MAJOR difference in embryo transfers. With endometriosis, it is highly likely that fluid flows through your tubes and that fluid is toxic to the embryos. So, when we did do IVF, and transferred our only embryo and it failed, the first thing I thought of was my tube. I instantly wondered if there was fluid in my tubes and it killed our embryo. I wished I didn't even have my other tube at that point. Now, obviously, this was an extremely emotional response, but it is in the back of my mind even now. I think, ultimately, it depends on you, your medical diagnosis, and where you are in your fertility journey. If it was me, and I was just starting out, I'd say maybe don't consent to doing both right yet and let it ride out for a bit, until you know more. Now that I've had a failed cycle, multiple surgeries, and we are thinking this will be the final cycle, I am leaning more towards getting it removed. Once I get my HSG repeated and we see what it looks like, I will know more. But I am leaning more towards getting it yanked before we do our final IVF/transfer so that there is nothing that we could have looked back on with any wonder. In regards to your nervousness about the surgery, just know, it's totally normal and that it is helping you to not have any toxicity in your body. It is so hard to keep your cool, but they give you good, happy drugs that help, and before you know it, you're home! I would just recommend also taking a good 10 days off. They make it sound so easy because its laparascopic, but it is your mid-section and you don't realize how much you use it until you are trying to heal:) shoot me any questions if you want and good luck!!! :)

Thanks for the insight! I am like lost as to what to do or expect. Basically I don't know i it is Endo and the dr doesn't either. My left tube is damaged and very much needs to be removed. The hsg showed no damage in the right, but the dr said that it doesn't mean there is no damage. So I have been thinking about it and if there is damage maybe getting it removed as well for more success with IVT. Im scared if I get both removed that will be worse. I have my consult in two weeks and will then schedule my surgery. So I guess I have alot of thinking to do! Good luck with your hsg and final IVF! I am nervous for that too in that my dr said that may be the only way to go because there are also issues with male IF too.

Sorry that you Are going through this IF struggle, but I too have been cursed with the STRUGGLE. Both of my tubes are completely blocked and filled with fluid. I too just recently set up a doc appointment for a consultation for surgery. I was told by the doctor that my only chance to conceive is IVF. I am excited to move on with the next step in my journey to motherhood, but nervous as everything is riding on this one surgery as this surgery will significantly increase my chances for conceiving. When is your consult? Mine is scheduled for a week and I have a TON of questions. I am not sure if I should wait on my right tube because my HSG showed that there was not blockage...

Hi ladies! Last year I found out that I had what is called a hydrosalpinx when we were trying our first round of iui. This is a specific type of blocked tube that is fluid filled and toxic to embryos. In my case, it was due to a ruptured appendix and infection in my abdomen at age 10. July 24th, 2013, I had a laparoscopy. I had decided, even though my hsg showed clear passage that if my other tube was also damaged, I wanted it taken care of too. I had to sign a voluntary sterilization form before the surgery stating I agreed to the procedure and did not want children. This was terrifying. However, I wanted the best shot for ivf if it came to that. My doctor ultimately clamped my right tube (the damaged one) and had to separate my left ovary from my uterus due to adhesion. The worst part about the surgery was the terrible shoulder pain from the gas. The best part? July 30th this year I gave birth to my daughter, due to the surgery and femara. I know it's scary, but there is hope.
