I am 41 and, well, sort of TTC. Actually I'm kind of stuck waiting to even start trying. My PC has been a jerk about writing the letter that my infertility doc needs before he will do the IUI.

I'm no expert, but I believe that they had told me that a FSH of 12 is when they start getting concerned and it might take more to get pregnant.

HOWEVER, I've also read on the internet (so I don't necessarily trust it) that a 12 at one lab may not correspond to a 12 at another lab. I don't know if there is any truth to that. But, I wouldn't worry about 11.8 yet. The lab your doctor uses might just run high. I think only your doctor will know for sure if that is something to be concerned about.

I'm 43 and my RE was concerned about my FSH being 11.5 before the CCT. My reading right prior to taking the Clomid for the CCT was 8.0 and after the Clomid was 6.9. BUt my RE says that we cannot forget about the 11.5. So that is what he is basing the dosage for my Menapur injections on the 11.5.

My Re said anythng over 10 is a you might get pregnant, but it would be difficult and anything 15 and over is a no way you will get pregnant.

hello and welcome, i am the oldest one on here at 49. i just had a donor egg IVF on tuesday and everything is looking really good.my last child was born over 26yrs ago. it seems to be all trial and error. have they checked your ovarian reserve? either inhibben B or mulleran test will tell them how good your eggs are.mine were a little low so i opted for donor eggs and a 50% vs 20% chance of success.

My co-worker is 42 and she found out last week she is going to have another baby, she's hoping for twins, since statistics show that the older we get, the eggs start coming out together more often. Her youngest is like 10 or 11. Hope this helps!

I am currently 42 and am 16 weeks pregnant after my first IVF cycle. I became pregnant naturally at ages 38 and 39, but this time was tougher. My measurements were lower than yours, but I didn't do a clomid challenge test -- my FSH on day 3 was 5.5. I think it all depends -- certainly the older you are the tougher it is, no question, but I know of several people my age who have had children. Good luck to you, and I would definitely sit down and discuss your specific risk with your infertility doctor. And think about getting a second opinion -- the first one I saw (that I did the IUI with) gave me a 5% chance of success with IVF. I didn't care for his bedside manner, so I found a different doctor that I bonded with much better, and he gave me a 15% chance per cycle.

How do you get a donor egg?

YOu can read my bio and see all that I have done for a baby. At 39 a failed IVF lead my RE to tell me I was out of time despite fertilization, numerous eggs and low fsh. I thought he was full of it and opted to change my diet and excersise habits as well as using accupuncture and herbs to improve my egg quality as well as herbs and vitamins to imporve my DH's sperm issue. After 4 months of above protocol my accupunturist gave us the go ahead to try to concieve. She said with the chart I was producing it should only take about three months (at 40) to concieve. It did in the third month and am currently 17 weeks pg today. I am a firm beilever in all that I did holistically, but did everything with weastern doctors as well. Good luck with whichever way you choose, but I would never go through another assisted procedure without a 4 month preperation with accupunture and herbs.

Trying for a baby is hard. Trying for a baby when you're 40+... Well, let's just say it's very hard. Usually, people of your age have children. Everyone around, siblings, friends, coworkers, neighbors - all of them have kids. Some of them have a whole football team. And you're standing still watching them raise their children. You have to go through a family event or a dinner with friends without a mental breakdown. Trying for a baby when you're 40+is tough and devastating. I had 5 failed cycles of IVF. And each time someone asked "So what are you waiting for? Don't you want to be a mommy?" I wanted to punch them right into the face. I'm so glad the struggle is over as I'm pregnant and expecting my baby. I had to go through 5 IVF cycles and 1 cycle of mitochondrial donation to become a mom... Honestly this's hard to believe there will be no treatments, cycles, shots, medications, depressions, breakdowns, etc.
