I didnt see it but I can say that ER is NOT painless....I was sedated for my ER...however I woke up when they punctured my ovaries and it was not painless......it hurt badly!

How high were the costs they quoted?

And ya sure, the ER was not uncomfortable when I was knocked out. But as soon as I was awake I was in pain and sore for a few days! I hate misinformation when people are already so ignorant about IF already!

Later in the show they showed ICSI and described the egg as fertilized as soon as the sperm went in....Umm then why did some of mine not fertilize......shame on NBC for false hope.

I saw the part when they did ICSI and I do have to say it was pretty cool to see that at least. I actually cried because I never saw it before, I think my TWW is getting to me, lol. Anyways, I was also upset by them saying the egg was now fertilized, ummm not really. Also they said well we got like 26-28 eggs and we expect her to be pregnant because she has a great shaped uterus. Well as we all know, it is not a freaking guarantee she will be pregnant and quite frankly my heart will break for that woman if it does not work. Why the pressure, just say what her chances are but don't guarantee it. It gives false hope to someone just starting out down this road, oh ok IVF is a guarantee I will get pregnant, WTF! I think I am a little jaded! :( I really hope they go further with this infertility part of the segment and get some better information.

It was pretty cool to see the retrieval, but I wanted to slap her silly when she said no or "mild" discomfort. Even the time I had the least discomfort it wouldn't fit under mild.

They quoted $12 to $17k. From the girls here I think it is more like 8 to 12, right?

I would say that's a little high but not outrageous. My first one was expensive and upfront it was 9,500. Plus meds and monitoring on top of it. So my first one would have been close to 14,000 if my insurance did not cover a large part of my meds. So maybe they were factoring in the meds too. I am just glad it much much more reasonable at my new clinic!

It was great to show but the 26-28 eggs stopped me in my tracks. Wish they would show both sides. I wish them the best and certainly success but really??? How about those who get 4-5 and have 1-2 to implant or someone who gets 20+ and none fertilize. That would be a great showing as well.

that cost is not high - that is the range for my doctor here in south florida. but the ER was very painful for me, for DAYS afterward.

ER wasn't that bad for me. Crampy and uncomfortable that day, but within a day or two, I was completely fine. Everybody is different, I think.

I did appreciate that the Today Show aired this! I don't think they necessarily gave misinformation, but were just quoting averages with the cose. My clinic is relatively cheap compared to others. They quote $8K for IVF without meds and ICSI. When all was said and done, it cost us about $12K.

I love that the media is increasing coverage about infertility and I even emailed the show to thank them for putting this segment on the air during their "Born Today" series. We (DS sisters) won't all agree that the story they presented parallels to our own, but we can relate to the struggles that this couple has faced. I wish them the best with this IVF cycle!

My IVFs with ICSI were closer to $1500 each, including medication (did they say whether or not they were including meds in their price range?). I think the costs vary a lot by region. My ER was a little painful for the first 24-36 hours. I was actually expecting worse. I think there is a lot of individual differences that contribute to how you feel after the procedure.

Kudos to the couple for trying to educate people on what IVF is all about! I think it is difficult to present all of the different ways people experience this, but it is a start. I am interested to see what happens with the couple. We had about the same number of fertilized eggs both times, and both times, by day 5 had only 1-3 left for ET. Having a high number to start with doesn't guarantee success...

Just to reiterate, they said it was like getting a pap, that's how painful the procedure was. I disagree with that statement still...sounds like costs were ok.
