I totally teared up while reading this. How dead on is this writer? Part of the reason DH and I haven't told our families or even closest of friends is because I don't know how to, I don't know how to explain this hell we've been in for the past two years -- and I'm a writer, someone who's supposed to be good with words! I can't even think about doing so without tearing up or sending myself into a crying fit.

The other day, DH and I actually talked about whether we'd tell people about our IF struggles once we get to the point where we feel safe announcing our pregnancy, whether we'd tell our littles how they came to be in the future. He and I are sharply divided about doing so and left the conversation unresolved.

I'm open about our IF journey and now our IVF journey with some friends/family. We have been so lucky that everyone is just incredibly supportive and also respectful of our privacy. I see them all walk on eggshells and it's very sweet. But coming out to society in general is much harder for me. I've been surrounded by people (mostly at work, or those fertile not-so-close friends) who keep nagging and don't seem to take the hint when I actually walk away while they ask. My punishment for those busy bodies is to not tell the general public when we do get pregnant. They can find out when I'm huge. :)

Wow, what a great article. I am blessed to have one friend (my college roommate, actually) who struggled with IF for years (she finally had two kids, but after many miscarriages and IUI's) who is super supportive and I feel I can talk to her when I'm feeling really bad and I need to hear that things are going to be ok. The girls in my family are all very, very fertile but they do try. (My one sister actually sent me a card when the results of my HSG were not promising.) It still hurts when one of them pops out baby number three or four, and it doesn't help that I am the oldest by several years.

I've thought about writing a blog but it scares me. Thanks for the article!

This IS dead on! We have been on this journey for many years. Learned the hard way that sharing too much is incredibly painful due to insensitive and invasive questions and comments. So in the last few years have stayed very quiet about it and everyone assumes we are "done". I've started feeling like I need to let people in again a little and think that simply sharing this article might do the trick. Thanks for sharing!
