I was in your same spot- first IVF full of hope and all of my doctors were saying how it was going to be a success. I ended up with only 2 to transfer on day 3, no frozens, and a BFN. Honestly, it was the hardest time of my life, and it was also right around the holidays, I was in a dark place and my stomach still turns at the thought of that time... Big, big hugs to you...
With that being said- I completely agree with Christamh. The ones that have success with first round IVF are very lucky. Your doctors have learned a tremendous amount with your cycle, which is the silver lining. My second IVF I went from only 14 eggs first cycle to 28! I ended up with 15 embryos. I know that the whole 3 or 5 day transfers can be somewhat controversial around here but I strictly did day 3 transfers, my RE insisted on getting embryos back to their home asap. I still hit some bumps in the road- two chemical pregnancies and BFN but finally with a FET I got pregnant with my son! And when i was going for baby #2 I was nervous as h*ll but first try got my second son! Along with possibly discussing day 3 transfers with your doc, I would also suggest you speak with them about adding blood thinners prior to transfer. There are some studies suggesting that blood thinners may help any pregnancy- and don't know if it is coincidence but the two times I was on baby aspirin and heparin- there was baby #1 and baby #2. And I have 2 more frozens and I'm hoping for a transfer this fall- and I will absolutely insist on heparin. Just look- in my second IVF cycle I have had that many tries! What a difference another round makes!
With all that being said- take some time for yourself and keep on moving! Even with this set back you are still closer to the goal! Chin up- hang in there- and head back when you feel ready!
