Does anyone have any advice on how to go about talking to family about struggling with infertility. Or how to deal with negative comments and reactions from family members when opening up about the topic. I have been struggling a lot lately with my infertility and its really taking a mental toll on me. To the point that i was advised by a therapist to try and reach out to people for some support. But im very nervous to open up to my family fully and tell them that i am struggling with infertility. Especially since i tried opening up to a family member the other day about my infertility struggles. And i was completey shut down and told that i was basically wrong and that thats not really going on and that it must be something else. Now because of this i am even more afraid of what other family members may say or react to me telling them about my infertility struggles. Please if anyone has any advice at all it wold be very much appreciated or if you have any experiences of your own from telling family please share. Im just really tired of feeling like im alone.

I have suffered through this issue, and it can be difficult to talk about with family. Family always wants to be helpful and offer advice, when sometimes we just need someone to listen and not solve the problem. Maybe you could start the conversation by saying "I just want to share what's going on with me, and I'm not looking for a solution, just some comfort." Maybe it's hard for them to accept. Or perhaps, members of your family have suffered from this as well, which would be helpful to know. I want you to know that you are not alone. Trying to conceive can be very stressful, and causes anxiety and worry. I am here for you anytime you need to vent!

My family knew of my one and only miscarriage. My family also knows i'm very prideful at times and because i have a medical background i tend to be more laid back about medical issues compared to some of my family. So, in telling my family i non-chalantly discussed that we were looking into IVF over 1 year ago. Of course people had stupid or insensitive questions. I would just smirk/laugh and let them know how it really works in the IVF world. It wasn't until recently i sent a text to just the women in my immediate family (my mother, 2 sisters and niece) to let them know that we were starting our IVF journey and that praise was welcomed but opinions were not. That i was open to questions and would send them any videos or information they had questions about. For the most part they know my personality...I'm a Taurus, when i say stay out of my business, people typically do just that. So, be nice, but be firm on your expectations from your family and if they love you (and I'm sure they do) they will respect your wishes and do nothing but be supportive. Good Luck in the Life of IVF!
