I thought I'd give this a bump up for you. I am 37 and am also curious about IUI success at this age. We conceived naturally on Femara but I miscarried. My friend who is currently going through IVF at a fertility clinic said her RE told her they had a 50% success rate, so maybe that's a better figure to pin your hopes on, CreateJoy!

Hi there!! I'm 30 years old and have been married for almost 9 years. We've tried naturally since before we got married. I have PCOS and my husband has some abnormalities and low count. There is nothing in the world that we wanted more then kids. We talked about foster, adoption and donors, but no body had told me "YOU CAN"T HAVE KIDS" so I wanted to until I was told this. We tried and IUI with one dr. he didn't seem to interesting in following up with us when it didn't work and we couldn't afford more, so we waited 5 more years and found another Dr. that many friends had used. She did a lot of lab work and we tried an IUI round. It didn't work :( I was super bummed but she followed up with us and we changed somethings and tried again with an IUI. She said if this didn't work we would have to decide to stop or do IVF...I tried to do everything I could find online (imagine a pea implanting into mash potatoes....eat a pineapple for 5 days core and all after implantation) yup I did it all with a lot of praying. I found out March 15, 2014 when I got my first BFP ever!! Only after taking a billion test. We were sooooo happy and blown away that it was really happening. It was a rough pregnancy and I ended up getting something called HELLP syndrome where my organs shut down and I had to deliver 2 months early. My little boy spent 50 days in the NICU, but is perfectly healthy!! I wanted to lose faith many times. I was VERY mad with God. I can't promise you anything, but I can tell you that I was one of the ones that hurt so bad and thought it would never ever happen...but I was wrong. It isn't time, it isn't the whole "it will happen" to me it was me making sure I did everything I could to make it happen. I had to be strong and be my own voice. You can do this... I was able to do it. HD and I tried for years naturally. I also have Endo and it took my hubby a long time to really accept that we had an issue. Finally we were told we have unexplained IF. We did all the usual step. Chlomid, IUI's, Ovulation kits, I took my temp everyday...and so on. Finally we were told IVF was out only chance. It did work the 1st time but the 2nd time we were blessed with a funny, outgoing and wild little boy. He is awesome and we love him so much. All the pain, all the heartache and all the tears were worth it because he is amazing and I am so glad we never gave up. DON'T GIVE UP!
If I could give you one bit of advice. Jump right into IVF. IT has the best odds and will provide you with the greatest chance. Good Luck & Big HUGS.

I agree with Bell... If your insurance will cover it, and/or if it's a financial possibility for you, consider jumping straight to IVF. With tubal issues, IUI is not always very successful, as the egg often cannot meet with the sperm (no matter whether insemination occurs naturally or artificially). I've heard stories of women who spent more on numerous IUI attempts than what the IVF cycle(s) would've cost them. Personally, I was thankful & felt lucky that my medical condition prompted doctors to encourage me to move directly to IVF.

I have stage 4 endo. I too had to have both tubes removed, not just one. The month I had it done, there were 3 of us on the board all having our tubes removed at the same time. Of the three of us:

One got pregnant on their first Ivf attempt, we got pregnant on our second Ivf attempt, and the third couple got pregnant a year later because she lives in New Zealand which has socialized medicine so they had to wait their turn.

Yes, you heard right. We all have babies now. I am 38 this year. My little guy is now 15 months old and I couldn't be happier that we went for it.

Ps I agree with the others, skip Iui. It is a waste of money and more importantly time. I post about this often...the chance of success with Iui is only 16% per try. So 6 attempts only gets you to about 40% probability of a pregnancy. That's a lot of meds, stress, and cost.

Iui and Ivf are both extremely stressful - pull out the big guns and pay for the better method. At my Ivf clinic, shady grove fertility in the Washington, D.C. Area they boast a 60% successs rate with a blastocyst which means after 6 attempts there is a probability of a pregnancy of over 95%. Which would you want...40% or over 95% probability of success?

Thank you everyone for your replies. This truly does help!!! We went to our local clinic and have agreed to do 3 IUI's in the next 3 months. Then onto IVF. My DH wants to give the IUI's a try first. But we gave ourselves the limit of only 3 and then we are done. So March will be our first attempt. Thank you again!
