I will preface this discussion with the fact I have always been a 28 day, on schedule person when it comes to AF. Two months ago I went 31 days, and last month's cycle was only 24- which had never happened before to me. This week on day 29 (Wednesday) I began spotting,more spotting on Thursday, and then Friday I had severe cramping and (Sorry, tmi)- a huge clot when I went to the bathroom first thing in the am. Thought it would be heavy bleeding, but not at all- light spotting the rest of Friday, and Saturday, and now barely anything today. I am confused as in all of my almost 19 years of AF- this has never happened to me- only spotting? Where the heck is the rest of AF??? On Friday I called the Dr. because of the cramping and they did a blood test, and the nurse said it was negative. My DH went and bought a HPT this afternoon and wants me to use it tomorrow (can you tell he is anxious about this too)if my period doesn't come full force. My question is- could I have ovulated later than I thought and the blood test maybe wasn't able to detect anything yet?? I know that is wishful thinking maybe, but I am trying to figure out what is going on- any advice, similar experiences? Help!

Until a year ago, I had a cycle that was ALWAYS 30 days almost to the hour except for 2 very stressful months when I spotted a bunch midcycle, once in college and once a few years ago. A year ago, my cycle went to 32-34 days and I started having heart palpitations. 6 months later I finally went to a fertility specialist and they tested my thyroid. Now I am on thyroid meds and back to a normal cycle. If you haven't had your thyroid checked, do.

Other than that, maybe it is stress. I don't know you well enough to know whether your were previously on birth control or fertility meds or what your condition is, so I am not sure what else to suggest :|

I have had similar cycles where I am late, spotting, and pass a clot. My regular OB-GYN has always brought me in for a beta test but nothing. He never has an answer for me but my heart says my body is trying to conceive yet something goes wrong. Dr. Robin, our new RE detected a clotting disorder so who knows if that has something to do with it/me. I hope your Dr. finds some answers for you and this turns out well for you sweetie:)

Although I so hope that you ovulated late and something is happening for you right now, the symptoms you're describing happened to me once and it turned out to be because of a cyst that was giving off estrogen. (That can happen when the cysts are big enough - I think mine was 2 cm or something like that). The estrogen can interfere with getting your full AF, resulting in spotting or a really short cycle. The cyst was absolutely no big deal otherwise, and resolved itself the following month.

Are you on any fertility drugs? This can affect your cycle a lot. I was on Clomid for 1 month and had spotting for almost the entire cycle.
