It's a disease that can be terminal...it is for me...I receive no outside help from insurance or any programs. Everything we have done has been out of pocket. Everyone else just seems to want to tell me to "relax". Maybe I should try telling them that the next time they give me devastating news that directly affects their family or ability to have one. (I'm slightly bitter...maybe don't use what I'm saying, but it's what I believe!)

I completely agree with both of you ladies. I know for me I have no help, so I haven't even had the chance to start my journey. I too am bitter, the doc that told me about my infertility said its not a medical condition, its not life threatening; hence it wasn't important. I cant believe how insensitive people are. I have dreamed of being a mother ever since I can remember and in the blink of an eye my dreams were shattered. I wish they would classify infertility as a medical condition so we can receive some help and not get looked down upon.

Its awesome that you are a voice for all of us, thank you for taking the time to "pole the audience". Obviously you know first hand what this journey is like, but it can be very different for each of us.
I agree that is should be classified as a medical condition. The way I see it is, something isn't working correctly and needs to be fixed or addressed. Having overly large boobs isn't life threatening but there are plenty of cases where women are able to have insurance cover a reduction. Male Impotence isn't life threatening but men are treated for is regularly and meds are generally covered under most insurance plans. I've broken a few bones in my day, none of which were life threatening, but insurance covered xrays, casting, dr appointments etc., when i was dealing with a minor depression 10 years ago the dr determined I had low seratonin levels and prescribed me a series of counseling sessions and meds to get me back up and running. Yes depression can be life threatening but in my case it really wasn't but my insurance covered my "illness". I'm sure I could go on but you get the point of where I am going....If something isn't working correctly...insurance should cover it!

Someone can cut a finger off, and insurance will pay thousands of dollars to have that finger be treated and put back together. Having a finger is not a medical necessity. Or removing wisdom teeth. I'm not even saying the procedures need to be completely covered like a life threatening surgery would be, but atleast make it reasonable for the average person to save for. The long lasting effects of infertility can be detrimental to our health. I could drain insurance in mental health bills due to my bitterness and depression about infertility. If my body is not working correctly, medical insurance should be there to help, regardless of the function.

Thanks Ladies, its good to get a 'feel' for how we all think. I really believe that it is important to take into account what other people have gone through not just our own experience when discussing issues of infertility. I will let you know how everything is going as the date gets closer.

I agree with all of you. Infertility is unfair. I have been the added bonus of incompetent cervix. We have lost 4 babies...7 weeks, 8 weeks, 17 weeks, and 22 weeks. I just had a major surgery to fix my cervical issues and that cost me $6,000. To date we have paid close to $65,000 for infertility treatments, pregnancy appointments, surgeries, etc. To say I am bitter is an understatement. So many years of infertility made me angry. To carry a child for 4-6 months and have your body fail your child is very hard to swallow. I am jaded, broken, and I honestly hate most pregnant people. Some might call me crazy for continuing to try but, I believe that I will carry a child to term. I want a child with my DNA and my husband's. Is that too much to ask for?
