So my RE's secretary finally called me, I have to go in for my SHG at 11:30 on Wednesday morning. I've been warned that this procedure can be particularly painful for someone with endometriosis...I'm wondering if I should return to work after the procedure or if I should take the rest of the day off? What has everyone else's situation been?

(This is a sonohysterogram...the one where they fill your uterus with fluid and take an ultrasound, NOT the HSG with the dye)

My HSG was very painful. But I have had 3 SHGs and they were a breeze. I had a mock transfer at the same time and the mock transfer part was uncomfortable but I would still be able to work easily.

I found both the HSG and SHG to be painful and uncomfortable. I went home after both and just relaxed. Good luck!

Though the SHG I had was extremely uncomfortable (I attribute the pain to the fact that I was full of endo at the time), I was able to go on about my business the rest of the day. I had some cramping for the next day or 2, but it wasn't anything that would have kept me from being able to work. Having said that, if you have the time, and can afford to take off, do it girl! Go get you some fro-yo and go home and watch a good chick flick! Good luck!

Mine hurt alot while they was doing it and esp when he was putting the dye inside
to be honest after it was over i didnt need rest, i had a little cramping in my lower area and that was about all ...
i felt that i needed more rest after the HSG

I did not know I had endo when I had any of my tests done. I found the HSG much worse than both of my SHGs, but went back to work after all three. My first SHG hurt for about 5 seconds. The second one I had no pain. I did have a little cramping during the day after my second one, but nothing bad. At the point of all those tests I also did not know yet that I had endo.

My shg hurt less then the hsg, but the pain subsided quickly and I was definitely fine to work all day after even on my feet/ physically strenuous work...

Thanks for all your input ladies! I've actually decided to take the rest of the day off...I'm just coming off of a particularly painful period so I have a feeling that this is going to aggravate my existing cramps if nothing else. Plus I haven't had a day off from work for anything other than medical reasons for a long, long time...I think I'm going to take kevsgirl's advice ;)
