"My" Medication Choices

Happy New Years Ladies!

Ok, so here is my question. Have any of you ladies said no to clomid and wanted to go straight to injectables?? How did your doctor take it? This is why I am saying this.. Last year my husband I went through all the testing.. I have PCOS (Yay for me!) and well my husband as zero-sperm. Together we are a perfect mess, who are extremely in love, even though all of this...I was lucky enough to have a husband who excepted the idea of a donor and so last Feb we found a donor, and have yet to start the process all over again.. We had to have some adjustment time you know.. Any who I did clomid one cycle last year to see if I could ovulate on it and I HATED EVER SECOND OF THE MEDICATION. I have heard that injectables are a little easier on the body, and have a higher chance of working with someone who has PCOS. I have 8 vials, meaning 8 chances of this... Can I skip to injectable????

I wouldn't see why your dr would have a problem with you wanting to be more aggressive. I had been on clomid for 6 cycles with my ob a few years back. My RE gave me the option to do that, Femara, or move to injectibles. I say if it is your body and money, you should have the choice!

well I asked for clomid and my RE put me on follistim. He said it was better for me than clomid. So I did one cycle of follistim and IUI. BFN. Now praying for a natural miracle since I ran out of money..

My RE gave me the choice, so it shouldn't be a problem. I had horrible side effects on Clomid, and only bloating on Follistim, so I highly recommend it!

What does follistim cost? I know every insurance is different...but just an idea

I have no insurance coverage for meds. I paid 256.00 per 300iu cartridge and I needed 3 of them. You can find them online in that price range, my clinic was able to refer me to a local pharmacy who sells them for that price.
I believe Gonal-f is the same type of med and there are some better deals online for that one, but my RE preferred the Follistim.

If your doctor wants you to stay on the oral meds I would suggest Femara. It is so much better than clomid. It doesn't have the horrible side affects and it also does not thin the uterine lining like clomid tends to do. If you do go onto injectibles, I think follistim is great. The only side affect I ever had from it were headaches and that wasn't every cycle. It comes in 300, 600 or 900 iu. I always got the 900 because you don't really know how much you need until you start getting your follicles checked. I think it's cheaper to buy one 900 than 3 300s. My insurance does not cover IF at all but somehow it did cover the meds and I was able to get mine for a $50 copay.
