My husband has a very low sperm count of only 2 million. And the quality of the ones he has are not good. His uroligist never got into detail about what he meant about low quality and it was my fault I didn't ask exactly what he meant. And now stupid us can not remember the name of the doctor to call and ask. It has been several years. We tried for 3 years and nothing ever happened and then all of a sudden last year we got pregnant 3 times all ending in miscarriage. He doesn't have health insurance anymore and we can not afford to go to the doctor. My first question is why all of a sudden would we get pregnant 3X in a row? And my second question is are my chances of miscarriage higher because he does have a low sperm count with bad quality? My last miscarriage was Jan. 2 2008 and we have not had any luck since then. Any advice would be greatly appricatied.

I could see that having bad quality of sperm could result in miscarriage. It is just like our egg quality. The lower the quality, the lower your success rates. I would suggest to go to the doctor but you said financially that is not possible. Maybe you could have another SA run and that could give you more details.

My DH has really low count also. His is only 1.3 million. They told us that his count was to low to even determine how good the ones that he has are. Our Dr. told us we had less than a 1% chance of getting pg on our own and that IVF was our best option. We did try IUI once and after the sprem wash/spinning only 2 sperm survived. That was quite a blow to us.

It wouldn't surprise me if your DH's low/poor quality sperm are causing the miscarriages. It seems like maybe they could get there to fertilize the egg but not make a strong enough embryo to hang in there for the whole time needed. I know you said you don't have any insurance right now but when I was seeing my regular OB/GYN he had my DH go for a SA and it cost us $100 without insurance. He also told us that sperm counts can change a good amount from 3 month to 3 month periods so maybe it would hurt getting another SA done if you can afford it. I know my OB would write the prescription for another if we needed it, do you think yours would?

My husband also has a very low count. 1 million total, only about 200,00 that are decent quality. DR said IVF was really the only hope for us. We did our 1st IVF cycle this spring. I had a miscarriage. The dr says there's no way of knowing yet if his sperm was the cause, seeing that anyone can have a miscarriage.
Since you've had several miscarriages now, I'd think there's a good chance that your husband's sperm is at leat a factor in that. I would definitely get a new sperm analysis. They're not too expensive and would give you a lot of good information.

I heard that Vit C helps a mans sperm count...so fill him full of Vit C.

I read that if the quality of sperm is bad then it somehow does not fertilize at a good quality. This could be why you had your miscarriages.
