Well technically speaking yes having more follicles would increase your chances BUT most women do get pg with only one. Don't give up hope on the clomid though. I have a friend here on DS who did 6 cycles of clomid before she got pg. She was technically unexplained too. Is your dr going to monitor you and see if you are actually ovulating when you are doing these clomid cycles (good ovulation)? I think that might be something to ask. Also have you thought of a second opinion. It might not hurt to hear what another dr has to say....

Well this is my second opinion dr and she told me IUIs would just be a waste of money. She didn't mention any u/s though. She said Clomid could take up to 6 cycles. I hope she's right. Thank you

Your doctor is stupid if they say that IUI is not going to work if you have unexplained IF! Are you seeing an OB or an RE?

An OB/fertility specialist. Oh yeah I ovulate just fine. So my lab work says.

I was really surprised to learn that your RE told you that IUI is a waste of time for unexplained IF because my RE told me the complete opposite. I am in my TWW on my first cycle of IUI with Clomid at 50mg and I also had 2 mature follicles(around 24mm each). I had two more which were not big enough (9mm each). My RE told me that this was a good result, he also recommended that we try IUI because it by passes many of the problems which might cause unexplained IF (eg hostile mucus etc). He said that they don't really know why it works but it quite often does. Did your RE do an ultrasound to see how big your follicles were? We were also told that a higher sperm count means better chances. Good luck!

You really should go to see a fertility expert. Unless your tubes are blocked, I have never heard that IUI is a waste of time. It makes me sad that any medical doctor would so quickly dismiss options.

I had 2 follies that were 22x27 and 27x29 and dr said levels looked great but BFN. I had an HSG and all clear. My DH has a lower SC but enough to get the job done. My last dr didn't give me a sperm count after washing though so I wasn't quite sure how much we were doing our IUI with. The only RE is over 3 hrs away (just not in the budget)I just wanted to do one or two more IUIs and then take it from there. Even though when things seemed so perfect they still didn't work. Very draining.....

So the answer is yes? 2 follicles doubles my chances or just makes it a little bit better?

Amanda...I just really cant believe that the new doc said that IUI wasnt worth doing! Neither of you have been told that it cant happen for you. With that being said...The first thing I would do in your case is to get a sperm analysis done on DH! How "low" is low?..If it is 1-5 million after washing then I would be concerned that IUI might not work. But if his count is like 10 or above then there is NO reason why IUI cant work for yall. You have been checked..and have no issues going on! I just dont know that I would listen to that just yet! You havent done but 2 IUI's and the first one was natural! I would prolly stick with the IUI's for a little bit unless there was a TRUE reason why IUI will not work for yall! I know that this is VERY frustrating to you guys!!!! I was told that the more follicles, the more likely that at least one will fertilize instead of zero. But there are no statistics I've found saying how much the chances are increased. I know that my RE was concerned that on all the clomid I was on, I still only got one mature follicle to 19mm. I assume it's better to have more follicles because I'm being switched off clomid and going straight to injectibles this cycle. Good luck sweetie. Is your doctor trying to save you the IUI cost by saying that? It does seem weird, my RE said we could do 3 IUI's with me taking Clomid before she would recommend another treatment. I am not sure about the follicles. Wishing you lots of luck!!
