Prometrium vs. PIO shots

I'm going to be starting lupron for my first IVF cycle at the end of this month. I have all my meds already and I have a question about the progesterone. My RE has prescribed prometrium vaginal pills. Everything I read says people take progesterone in oil shots. What is the difference and should I be concerned I'm not on the shots?

I took prometrium with all four of my IVF pregnancies (two were frozen embryo transfers). It isn't the pleasantest thing, but I don't imagine shots are either. Anyway, it did what it was supposed to for me. =)

Maybe ask your RE about it. We didn't do IVF, but IUI, and he put me on vaginal suppositories. Then when that wasn't enough, as my progesterone levels were borderline low, I was then put on the in oil injections.

I haven't done IVF and only one IUI but my RE had me on Prometrium vaginal suppositories. My problem w/ them is my period kept coming wayyyy to early and I would bleed while still taking Prometrium. This is my first cycle taking PIO instead and although the shots aren't exactly pleasant, I feel better about taking it as it is stronger.

Progesterone is progesterone. the progesterone-in-oil is the older method with more years and research behind it, so some doctors prefer to stick with the old method. But older isn't always better! If you have a problem with low progesterone, then you should def do the shots. But if not, be glad you don't have to do them!

I'm supposed to alternate between the PIO and the suppositories, so my RE is trying a "happy medium" between the two.
