I did not use clomid but I did injections nightly after the 1st day of my cycle for about 8 days. They monitered how well the eggs were growing with ultrasound and when they were big enough we did a HCG shot then did the IUI 36 hours later. the actuall procedure was no big deal, really fast and easy (No Pain except for some cramping later in the evening).

I did 2 rounds of IUI, but now I have moved to IVF. I was on Clomid for both of my IUI's. I had some side effects, but I would do it again. I suffered serious hot flashes, some insomnia, night sweats, and bigger mood swings than usual. All was doable.

I went for blood work and ultr sounds on day 3, day 10, day 12, and sometimes day 13 or 14 depending on the results. Then I took an Ovidrel injection (I believe this is HCG) and I would return in 18 hours for the procedure.
The IUI was painless. The first time I was so nervous and I did notice a little pinch, but it was nothing. It was all over in about 2 minutes.

AND, is it taking the sperm & placing it in the uterus? The other posts here include other steps?

So I have another question. What exactly does the hcg shot do? Like I said dr didn't go into much explanation cause we are hoping for a bfp before having to do all this. Thanks!

the hcg shot makes you ovulate within 36 hours and then that's when they put the semen in your uterus through a catheter...they are introducing the sperm to your eggs!

The HCG shot is the one that triggers the egg release.
