My situation is a bit similar. We did IVF w PGD because I had 3 miscarriages and we could tell for the third one that it was because of chromosomal abnormalities. My doc said that I probably have higher probability of bad egg quality and we need to do IVF w PGD to minimize risk of m/c. Well, first two times we had no good embies but we changed something and third time we had 5 good ones. Transferred 2 and I'm now 5 weeks pg. Good luck and feel free to msg me if you need to chat.

I am 23weeks and had IVF, but for unexplained infertility. I have a friend though who had it for PGD due to and inherited condition from her hubby. Hers was successful the first time. If I remember correctly, I think she had something like 16 eggs fertilize, but only 3 DID NOT test positive for the condition. She transferred 2 and just had a beautiful little girl about a month ago. Good luck to you!

Kaja2008: thank you for offering to chat. I appreciate your input regarding your PGD experience. I also run the risk of bad egg quality due to my age (38) but the cancer risk is much worse. Congratulations on the pregnancy. How thrilling!!

You said you "changed something" the third time. Can you say what that change was?

Third time we did Lupron flare protocol. First was Lupron long protocol and second was just stims - no bcp no Lupron. I know of women who had better luck with just stims but for me bcps and Lupron flare did the trick.

I have Neurofibromatosis 1. There is a 50% chance of passing it on to each child (while this is not cancer, it has some potentially devastating effects on a child's development).

I acquired genetic counseling about this, but - since they could not guarantee that they would be able to find a genetic marker for the NF1, (without DNA from a relative that also has it) they said the results would be inconclusive. (I am the only living member of my family with this condition, my mother passed way in 1995).

With NF, they cannot test for that and Aneuploidy, since the biopsy specimen can only be tested for either / or. :\

We went for a 12 chromosome analysis. Out of 30 eggs, 26 were fertilized. (with some help from ICSI). of those, 22 appeared to fertilize normally (dividing as expected).

Of those, 2 had no chromosomal abnormalities. All of the others had abnormalities on 18, 21, or another chromosome.

Best outcome would have been one healthy of each gender... and while I have sadness for these "abnormal" embryos, I am eternally grateful that I did have two normal female embies transferred today.

Unfortunately, if this does not work and I do not get a BFP... I don't think I can afford another round. If I can, I will likely opt for donor gametes, since we do not know where the problem is originating. Likely its me, since I am 39, but DH insists that it "could be him" and is trying to keep me from blaming myself for that).
