Petrified of egg collection

I am so blessed to be at the stage where early next week, I will be having my 24 folicals collected in the small chance one will become my absolute everything. The closer the collection comes the more and more nervous I am getting. I am petrified of the whole process and the pain. I'm scared of the cervical injection and being sedated and basically everything. It sounds stupid but I am not sure how I'm going to manage to get through it. 


I have had the last week off of work with my husbands children down. I have a scan on Monday mid day which is inconvenient on first day back from work, with hope of collection Wednesday and transfer will likely be early next like Monday or Tuesday. I am an accounting tutor and worried whether I should go back to work for a bit on Monday or not at all and should I work in between. I would take the time off in a heart beat if I could afford it, my boss will not pay me sick though so not sure if I can deal with that loss of income. They do not know about this and my job means a lot to me so cannot be seen to be faking a sicky or trying to get pregnant. 


I am so stressed and anxious about everything it's unreal.

Hugs. I've never been through IVF so I don't know what the pain is like. You need to take off the time you need. You are not faking sick because you are going through a medical procedure. Do you think you would lose your job if they find out you're doing IVF? So sorry you have to go through whether or not to take a sick day without pay. Best wishes during the retrieval and prayers.

The retrieval was not bad for me. They put me to sleep, and I woke up feeling so much better. All the follicles made me have bad cramps that whole week leading up to the retrieval, so once they removed them, I felt relief. I was not in any pain afterwards. I hope you have the same experience. Thank you to you both. I am going to make up a problem with down below to get Wednesday through to Monday off, this will cover retrieval & transfer back in. Mehhh feeling low at the moment. X

I just did a fresh IVF cycle and it's not as bad as it sounds. Stressing over the process is surely not gonna help. Also could totally threw your hormones out of wake. Have you considered acupuncture? I did it through my 3 failed IUI's and my IVF cycle.

The transfer was not bad at all I had no pain, bleeding or any other systems. They collected 5 eggs, 4 fertilized and we put two in. I actually did IVF in Tijuana, Mexico. We live in San Diego, therefore it's about 30 minutes from our house. We walked across the border for each appointment including the retrieval and transfer.

However everyone pain level varies but try to remain positive and optimistic. Hope my journey helps calm you in some way.

Egg retrieval was not bad for me, but I was bloated and sore on the next day. I was scared too, but try and relax, stress is bad for you. Good luck!!

Curious as to how it went! I'm going to be put under at the end of this week for oocyte retrieval. I'll hopefully be doing a FET at the end of October. I don't understand why I have to wait so long but whatever the experts want, right? Hoping for the best for you!

Hi everben81, are you being put to sleep for it ? I was given gas and air and sedation which neither really worked that well. Thank you for your best wishes, counting down the days now.

They are putting me under anesthesia. Today is day 8 of injections. Did you do a fresh transfer or are you waiting for frozen?

That's very lucky then :) fresh and was transferred at day 6.
