Hey there! Our insurance did not cover any of the IVF process either, since we knew we might be headed in that direction we started saving months ahead of time. We also took out a new credit card with no interest for a year to help cover the cost of medication, that way we could space out our payments if we wanted to. Hope this helps! Good luck!!

I have the same question... I think all medical insurance NEED to change and add IVF to be covered by insurance since their are a lot of couples that need the financial help.

I agree that insurance should cover IVF. I know some would argue that this isn't life or death, but it is a basic human function that we're not able to do. Infertility is not based upon lifestyle factors either unlike other diseases that are covered. I love it when I read comments that say otherwise.

I'll be starting IVF soon and was hoping to qualify for the guarantee program at my clinic, but found out that we do not qualify. I've been shopping around for another clinic (willing to travel elsewhere if needed) and found out about CNY in Syrucuse, NY. They will do an IVF cycle for $3,900 which is much better than what my clinic would have charged. Have you shopped around? Another thing you could try is writing to your employer (or husband's employer) a letter stating why IVF needs to be covered by insurance. This worst they can say is no. I believe the Resolve website may have a "canned" letter so to speak.

We have been paying out of pocket and its not cheap but we did see if can apply for compassionate care to see if you can get a discount on some of the medication as this will be almost half your cost of IVF.

Also shop around for pharmacy for prices and see if they have any other discounts on medication.

I read that some people got their meds overseas. I just didn't go that route so I would not have any input.

As somebody who has to do IVF, I can totally relate. I looked around to see what was my best option. Fortunately, because I live in a state that has a mandate that health insurance have to cover IVF/fertility treatments if they provide prenatal and maternity services. My health insurance covers it. I believe there are only 19 states with such a mandate/law so I would look into that to see as well. It all depends on the state where you live and if the insurance you get is based in the state. If you I stance through an employer, then your employer has to be headquartered in a state that has that mandate in order for services to be covered. Hope this helps.

We had been saving money for a home renovation when we found out IVF was our only option. We used our saved money for it, plus, when we were running out, my husband started doing overtime and taking shifts from coworkers. I began spending on medications through a new, no interest credit card with points/rewards and paying that bill periodically from my own salary. Hubby covers medical stuff. We did medicated IUIs first, about 2 of them (800 per IUI, plus 2k for meds). Then we moved onto IVF at a really expensive clinic. After failing to get to retrieval due to cancelled cycles, we switched docs. I found a low stim clinic that charged half as much as the other place. My clinic charges per egg retrieved, not a one size fits all approach. My work insurance covered a very small fraction of the costs, so we saved a few thousand dollars there. So, the best thing I can say is, see if you can get a success guarantee program. I couldn't because I am too old, lol. Also, if you do not have money out of pocket, you can research on any low interest loan programs. Also, if you spend out of pocket, make sure you itemize them as deductions on your taxes! Keep every receipt and try to make an expense list early on, so that next year, you will be ready to add it up as an expense. I really wish these procedures weren't so expensive! Maybe some day it will get better. I am very thankful that we had a small reserve of extra money for this. But, my home looks like its in 1982. Fair trade if I can get pregnant! haha!. Good luck!
