I certainly do not tell work when I go through this process. My RE opens really early so I book all of my appointments at 7 or 730am. That allows me time to get to work before 9am, which in my office is sufficient and no one thinks anything is going on.

It's not petty - this stupid infertility issue has to not only effect our moods, relationships, body changes and how our clothes fit, but it must include our professional lives as well! If it didn't, it would only suck 99.999999% of the time instead of the 100% that it actually does suck.

I'm with you on not telling my employer. I've been very lucky that my job is very flexible with my appointments. The 2 times i had i IUI - i took off once, and the other time I literally sat with my legs crossed the 3 hrs i was there and didn't move until i walked to my car. We are looking into IVF, but internationally, so that will open a new can of questions. My friend who works at the same place as i do, had IVF and i only found out after the fact. She said her boss knew and was very respectful, and i think she took off the day or 2 that she had the retrieval and maybe another day. I guess it all depends on what you are comfortable with.

Do you have a certain number of vacation/holiday days per year? what about sick days? Perhaps you can a few of those? (again, since i haven't started anything related to IVF i'm not sure what to expect.) I would say see the hours you can book early or after work appointments, and maybe speak to your direct boss about making up some days. Maybe coming in early and staying late other days during the week that you take a day off?

Hi! I work full time and I have just kept telling my boss I have doctors appointments, with no reason why. I don't trust any leadership at work. My clinic has 2 locations, so I either go to a morning appointment then go to work, or go on a lunch break, in which people think I am eating lunch, not getting probed and poked, lol. I did take 2 days off for egg retrieval and gave no reason why. Nobody cared or asked. Good luck!

I'm in health care and I'm certainly not telling my patients when I go for IVF. I'm going to take a week off and tell them I'm going camping or having a staycation or something. The tricky part will be timing it right. Don't feel pressured to tell them. If you are going to be late for work or miss a day just say it's for a medical appointment, they won't ask for details.

Hi , I just joined this forum today. I gave a heads up at work that I will be starting a bit late on certain days. Have some health issues - people are smart , one of the co-workers asked " is it concerning your pregnancy?" I said it's just my health. Let them figure it out, I just don't want my health issues to be discussed around. I work in healthcare so I really don't have much room other than let my boss know, because patients will be waiting if I run late. Good luck to all ! And baby dust to all !!

I have a pre op on the 12th at 8am so I will be late for work but I will say the bus was late I think.

Then another at 10.15am next Friday. I am planning on making up the time and saying I have a consultation appointment in regards to my throat (of which I have issues) these are the only ones booked in but anything could happen and I can garentee there will be appointments between then and the 14th of august which is my collection scan. I start meds on the 24th.

I am planning two days off for both egg collection & transfer but I obviously don't know when this will be exsactly. I could call in sick but what illness lasts two days and then 3/4/5 days later comes back ? Haha!

You're right, this is just another stress and worry to think about. I work in a small firm and don't want to cause any problems but can't allow them to know either.

I shared with my office about my IVF. I had mood swings and an adverse reaction to a medication when doing my first FET cycle. I just completed my third cycle and every time I have a transfer, they make sure I am not over doing anything for the week following. The are very supportive and extremely helpful. I understand not wanting to tell or share but sometimes you need that support especially when you have mode swings or feel sick from the medications. Or on a day like today when I sit crying at my desk waiting to find out if this cycle is successful. Emotional wreck
