I have had 4 ivf cycles with one success!!! I am so blessed to have a baby girl but I want to have a brother or sister for her. I've had the same RE since 2007 and went for a 2nd opinion with a different doctor and he pretty much told me "its over, your too old" yes grant it I am 41 but I still don't want to give up my hopes, I left the office in tears and had to pull over so that I wouldn't have an accident. I have not been able to get that out of my mind. I am so upset. do you ladies think I would seek another doctor OR is this doctor right, I'm too old!! He mentioned I had low ovarian reserve and if I did donor egg I would have a less than 20% chance of working!! Please help, what do you girls think!!! I'm so confused, Please help!!! go see another RE. til 45 you are not too old .. I say til you have menopause you are not out of the game... don't listen to him.

That was pretty crass of him to throw down with, "you're too old." What a douche! I'll be 39 next month and my RE has explained the odds with us, etc. and given our particular situation, he recommended IVF, which we'll move forward with once we have the $$$; but he would never be so blunt. Also, I know for a fact that he works with women WELL into their 40's, so I'd definitely get a 2nd opinion. Hang in there, and ((hugs))

go see another RE. I know after 37 ovarian response dimishes quiclky but there are doctors who do fertility treatments on women in and past menopause. my aunt had my cousin at 43 after 2 late term miscarriages and years of infertility. theres still hope hun. dont give up!

i say get another opinion!! what a jerk!! i had a friend that got pregnant at 43 with twins too!! there is still hope, chin up!!

Age isn't the factor at play!

If your FSH is over their criteria for ovulation induction then OK, but if he is basing it simply on the digits in your birth year then he can stuff it, and yes I would certainly seek a second opinion post haste!

and donor egg has a 60-70% success rate (depending on the clinic) and your age has no effect on it whatsoever (unless you're actually elderly!) So that makes no sense.

Why did you change your RE? Sorry if that's being nosey. But you can't give up, there has been so many times in the last 4 yrs. I've been ready to throw in the towel, but I just can't seem too. I understand wanting to give your child a sib, been trying for 4 yrs. to give our little blessed 5 yr.one. You need to go to someone who is going to be positive and encouraging to you, not someone that's going to give you no hope. Remember, doctors don't know everything, they have been wrong many times about many things, and that includes telling someone if they can have kids or not, have friends that have. So I wouldn't give up yet, and pray, the Lord gives us strength to bear all things-He really has for me. Hope you find someone good soon-blessings to you!

don't give up.... I am 44 my insurance denied me cause of my age!! It does suck. They use statics from years ago and don't have new statics for women over the age of 40. Because of the age the insurance compaies feel it is not medically necessary!! It's a hard bit of news to chew. I too did my share of crying!! I have had two failed IVF cycles. i will be 45 in April. I feel cheated had I known when I was younger i would have done things differently!! PLEASE go see another RE.

I want to thank all of you for your encouragement and support. It means so much to me especially during this tough month!! And thanks to you guys I am either going back to my original RE or seeking another RE!!! Thanks again and baby dust to us all ;-)
