I'm sorry that I can't offer any advice except to tell you that I understand. This is something DH and I are considering at the moment. We've had people say to us 'well, kids are expensive if you can't afford IVf you probably can't afford them'. They don't consider the fact that they got their children for FREE, they're not starting with thousands of dollars less just to have their children. The thing we struggle with is that if we can't have children we want to spend some time travelling and doing Aid Work overseas, but if we spend money on IVF, that's a fair amount of that money gone. With no guarantee of success. I suppose we need to weigh up our priorities. I wish I could offer you some advice.

Since you are only 31, I will save a little more money and postpone the IVF once you will be financially more stable. As long as the RE says it's ok, and if you do IVF in 2 years you will be still ok. I understand your frustration, I am paying everything out of pocket and I wish you all the best, lots of green dust and baby dust!!

This is a very very tough decision.... we had ins to cover the first cycle - BFN; FET = Chemical.... we are about to go through cycle #3 (out of pocket) and we took a big chunk of our savings to do that, but I have to be honest, for DH & I it was the right decision for now.....

In may after my surgery I was told IVF is the only way I would conceive. Even with that my first round I would have approx 45% chance of conception and if that didn't take 70% my second round. After many discussions with DH about the success rate as well as financially we decided to just let nature take its course. It would take everything we have to do this. If the doc said he "guaranteed" we would get pregnant we would do it. It is a very difficult decision and it sucks.

I am actually doing this program currently. I am so glad we made this decision. Coming off my first IVF with a BFN and no blasts for the FET I am so relieved we opted for this program. It is like an insurance policy. If you get pregnant on the very first try, then great, but if not (complications come up in IVF more often than you think) then you know your options are not gone. If it never works then you've spent the cost of about 1 cycle, and if it does work, well, that will be priceless!

You know that the doctor's will be doing the absolute best for you that they can because if you do not get pregnant then they loose money. IVF is such a stressful process, taking advantage of this program has taken a huge pressure away.

I do know that these programs can be relatively hard to qualify for and the huge amount of money you have to pay is very scary. We opted to not drain our savings account and get a home equity loan (that was not fun). This turned out to be a good idea, because there are still lots of little costs, such as meds depending what your insurance covers, ISCI if you need that -- we did, etc.

This is the option we selected. While extremely pricey, we believe we have made the right decision. We haven't officially started our first cycle yet (waiting on AF), but have relief in the fact that doctors want to make money. If they didn't think they could be successful with you they typically will deny you for the "shared risk" type of program with refunds. In the grand picture, if you are able to have a child with IVF, you won't even look back at the cost.
