I have been taking Metformin 1500 mgs. (3 times @ 500 mgs ea.) for about 3 weeks now. I started slow taking only 1 pill for 2 days, then upping it to 2 pills for 2 days then finally 3 pills. I was fine until I hit the 3 pills a day...but I've ALWAYS taken it after I have eaten a meal (like directed by my doctor)
Well I was awful for about 3 days after I started taking the 3 pills a day...then I seemed fine, only a few times I was getting upset stomach, YET I have no appetite what so ever and get full extreamly fast only eating a portion of a small meal.
WELL today (and kind of yesterday) I've been so nauseous ALL over again, I haven't taken my lunch time pill yet, and I am SO not hungry and I know I need to eat with it.
Does anyone know if this get's easier on your stomach & with nausea or if this is IT? I know it's suppose to help me, but all it does so far is make me not want food at all. Oh and certain foods that I loved before make me sick...almost like I'm pregnant, yet I don't think I am just yet.

I didn't realize until recently that they give me stomach problems. Shortlyafter I started taking Metformin (500 mg 2x daily) I would get these awful stomachaches at night and would feel horribly nauseous. I would just lie there for hours feeling like crap but for some reason I didn't put it together that it was from the Metformin until about a week or two ago. I now take 500 mg 3 times a day (before meals) and it makes me feel like I have diarrhea but I don't so there's no relief. It usually disappears after a couple of hours or so but it feels awful while it's going on. Obviously it's not bothering me enough to ask to be taken off of it since I haven't even considered it, but I wish it would stop.

A few years ago I was put on Metformin, but I couldn't get disciplined enough to take it the way I was suppose to. I was in the Navy and was preoccupied with everything else to remember to take it. But when I got out and resumed taking it regularly I got the same feelings that CarryDawn did, nausea and that feeling like I had to run to the bathroom but then nothing would happen. That's not easy when you're a cashier (at the time) at a busy Lowe's store. But my dosage was the same 1500mg, 1 pill 3 times a day.

Also my current doctor took me off of it since it didn't seem to be helping me to ovulate and have periods.

it can take months for the symptoms to completely go away. When i first started taking it i would randomly have diahrea (sp) but haven't had any symptoms in years now. Even when i stopped taking it for about 5-6 months the restarted, never got the symptoms back. So i am pretty sure you'll feel better soon.

My doctor has me on the slow release and I take them at night before bed. When I first started I would take them both with a full glass of milk to coat my stomach now I can take them with just water and be fine. Honestly though it was 2 months before it stopped effecting me entirely. As well I make sure I haven't eaten for at least 3 hours before taking them and not to eat after taking them for at least a few hours. I would talk to you doc about the slow release if your not already on them and the bedtime thing as well. I hope you get over it soon. It does have great benefits after you've been on it for several months. I feel like my old self now after 9 months now and have finally been able to get this PCOS weight off as well.

I take 2000mg (4 pills). My RE switched me to the Metformin ER (Extended Release) to help curb the nausea. I'm like strength4today -- I take all of my pills at night right before I go to bed. Switching to the ER version and taking them at bedtime helped me tremendously. I have not had any stomach issues since then. (Or maybe I'm just sleeping through them...LOL)

Oh as well foods high in fat, carbs and surgar will make it worse. Just think of it like you really have diabetes. A diet similar to what a diabetic is on is similar to what we should try to stick to.

Wow, I'd love to try taking mine at night, but I would get low blood sugar. If I take one and do not eat or do not eat enough, I am pretty much guaranteed to get low. I do not have PCOS though.

I take all mine at night before bed as well.... Mine were making me sick and still make me run to the bathroom all the time. They kill my appitite some days.

I take 2000mg a day and I had the same problems when I first started at that dosage. It does get better once your body gets adjusted to it all. I take one at lunch and one before bed. The less fats and sugar I ate the easier it was on my tummy too

I take mine at night before bed also. I have been on the for about a month in half. It was rlly bad at first. I had the worse cramps an running the the bathroom 20 times a day. It has got better. Some days r still pretty bad. I have noticed i dont eat like i should or use to. I just dont get that hungry as much. I am fine on them now cept when i eat somthing that does not get along with the met then i will be in pain all day. Only time i got nausea with it was when i THINK i was ovulating or about to. I was soooo sick for about 3 days.
