I would like any advice or personal experiances on men taking clomid. If it worked? And how much they took and how often? Thank you in advance.

My DH took it for about a month. His urologist prescribed it for him. He had told him to take 25mg everyday but then called in a prescription for 50mg a day. DH and I were nervous about him taking 50mg daily so he ended up taking 25mg.

The urologist didn't have to much data for us about the success rates of men on clomid so I ended up talking to another Dr. friend of ours. Bascially the research said that for the most part it does seem to have an affect on increasing mens sperm counts. I think it was 85% of men have an increase in counts but they have to take it for at least 3 months or longer everyday. Some men took it at least a year to have an increase in counts. The flip side was with all of the studies done, NONE showed an increase in the amount of pregnancies. That part shocked us. How is it possible that 85% of men have an increase in sperm and there are NO more pregnancies.

The other really aweful part was how moody my DH became. They say that clomid can affect women but man oh man was my DH a crab!!! After 1 month of him being on it we said enough and he quit. I took clomid once and really didn't have any side effects but he sure did.

Hi, My DH took Clomid for about 7 months at I believe 25mg per day. Sperm analysis is done on three factors: Number of sperm, motility (how well they swim) and morphology (what shape the sperm is). The Clomid increased my DH's overall sperm count - more sperm but Clomid does not change the morphology (the shape). Poorly shaped sperm do not swim well and will not fertilize an egg. So even though there are more sperm they may be abnormally shaped and without a certain percentage of normally shaped sperm, the likelihood of getting pregnant is low. This is why Clomid didn't work for us. This also may be why sperm count usually goes up with Clomid but not the percent of preganacies. My DH had not mood changes fortunately but I was concerned that other side effects might kick in if he stayed on it longer. Our doctor told us it takes 74 days for a man's body to produce sperm. If a man starts taking Clomid now the effect will not be seen for 74 days. Good luck and please let me know if you have any other questions.
