Medicaiton Costs per month approx..

Okay Ladies, I have one question for you guys... My husband and I are getting ready to start the whole IUI process and I want to be supper agressive with the medication, since my husband and I only have 8 shots at this (we are using donor sperm). I know that there is a difference in medicaton prices (insurance/no insurace..etc) but can some of you just throw out a number on what you have spent in medication for a month...if you have tried it with IUI's...

Please throw in hope for us if you had gotten pregnant with and IUI...Its nice to hear positive stories...it gives us hope that we have a chance..

IUI was realatively inexpensive. I was on Femara when I was doing IUI and then injectable Ovidrel. I think each month - with insurance the meds were only like $60. (without insurance my meds so far have been about 1700 - 1700 /6 (6 cycles of femara) - so I suspect about $300 without insurance). I have a flex acct - so that covered it.
I think the IUI itself was only like $400 and i'm not for sure about my husbands part maybe $150 or so for collection of the semen.

Back in 2005 I had hormone injections and then the IUI, plus the after the first month the RE did that Xray where they check your fallopian tubes for patency. Nothing was covered by our insurance, so all that all together for two months for EVERYTHING from blood work, to semen analysis, and shots, Xray, ect. was about $5,000 total. We had excellent results, but no success, the doctor had HIGH hopes but needed one more month and thought it would be it, but we were out of $$$ and me and my husband decided to finish our college degrees first. But we're done, and back at it, we'll start the IUI's again in 3 months. I think it will work. This is probably not the same for everyone, but my RE said, "the first month is almost a trial, to see how you respond to the injections (if that is what you are taking, they produce the most eggs compared to the pills), some women have way too many and they don't do the IUI because of this and try again the next month! I had a great reaction and had the IUI both months, my tubes were patent, and my husband's sperm was good. The doctor was giving me the % of people that become pregnant when they actually ovulate each month normally, it's REAL LOW, so becoming pregnant is a miracle! He said he's not God, so it's not a garentee, but if he makes the conditions perfect inside of me it WILL happen, he had always had great success by the 3rd month if it didn't happen in the first two. So, my best prayers to you and be positive! I'll be going through it again soon and we'll be able to share our success stories with eachother! That would be awesome! Best Wishes!
