I used Lupron in my 1st IVF cycle.
Lupron causes the production of certain hormones to shut down temporarily. It is very small syringe with a tiny needle. U won't even feel it when u inject it in ur belly. That was the easiest injections i had :-). i wished all injections to be like the lupron injection. The side effects i had were headaches and nausea. But remember each person is different. hope u won't get any side effects.

Oh thank you for that. Did the headaches & nausea side effects subside after a few days on it? I'm already nauseous from Metformin so I am a little worried about that part.

U are welcome. After i stopped lupron, the nausea and headache stopped. Donot stress urself about it and take it easy. Always think that u are doing all of that to have a baby :-). Wish u the best of luck.

Yeah I know...I try to remind myself of That daily. I just hate been nauseous ...so I will be double nauseated cuz of the Metformin. I have to take the Lipton for 3 weeks!!! Ok I'll stop complaining maybe I wont get nausea from it...I do pretty good with side effects not really getting them so I will keep my fingers crossed I don't get them. Thank u again...I was really worried LOL. :)

I took lupron along with gonal f for my IUI cycle so I didn't ovulate prematurely.

I was only on 5 units but I had no side effects at all.

It's not a pen either, you have to draw it up, but like baby2011 said, it's a tiny needle and you hardly feel it. If you've ever used the gonal f pen, the needle is similar to that.

Oh and also - how long have you been on met? I stopped getting stomach aches a week after I started taking it. I've not been on it for a few months and have no side effects from it at all now- and i'm on 2000 mgs! If you've been on it a while and still have issues you might want to ask your RE to switch you to a different brand. Glumetza is good and so is fortament er.

Thank you Kristin ...I've done the gonal-f pen too and I didn't feel a thing with that needle so that's good. I'm only doing an IUI cycle but I always seem to have a lot of follicles but only one lead one that gets mature way before the others...so when IUI comes I only am ovulating one egg each cycle instead of several. Which I could do without all the meds since I ovulate on my own anyways. This way hopefully I will hand several mature eggs by IUI time. I think I'm on a small dose of Lupron too so I should be OK with side effects.

Also I've been on Metformin for a week as of today...I took it before a year ago...and the nausea does subside usually for me but when I eat bad it comes back so I have to be careful not to eat lots of greasy or fried foods while I'm on it. I guess That's why I lost 30 lbs last time I was on it!!!

Yeah I think that's why my RE uses Lupron with every IUI cycle. It helps you get more follicles to trigger without them going too early. I just triggered 4 follicles and am now 8 dpo! :) I was excited because on clomid and clomid/gonal f I only got 1 follicle, and did timed intercourse.

So this time we had 4 follicles and back to back IUI's! Whether I'm pregnant or not, I really "enjoyed" this cycle, lol! It was very easy and quick.

Yeah I've heard people say that they can't eat bad foods on met but I have no problems! Our state fair was a few weeks ago and I ate a lot of fried food (opps) and felt fine afterward! I sort of wish it DID make me feel sick - maybe I'd loose some weight! lol!

Thanks so much! I know, I was psyched! My RE who did the IUI said the only thing I should be worried about is multiples, lol! But of course I'm worried that I'll even get ONE! Multiples would be such a blessing! I go in for my beta on Tuesday - I'm getting very anxious!

I'm sure the lupron will really help you get more mature follicles. Keep us posted with how many you end up triggering!!!

I just noticed that I'm going to be on 20 unit's in the begining and then drop down 10 unit's. So I'm a little nervous about the higher dose...but I'll try to not think about it and hopefully I don't have any nausea.

OK so can't wait to hear about you!!! They make me test at home first, it's cool you can just go in for the beta instead!!! Let me know when you find out!

Are you on a higher dose of FSH? I think I read you're on Repronex, right? I think it's similar to gonal f (what I take). Anyways, I'm on a VERY low dose....THE lowest you can take actually. I respond very easily to it. So maybe that's why they have me on such a low dose of lupron. Maybe the higher the dose of FSH, the higher the dose Lupron, you know? I'm sure you'll be fine. Your RE knows best!

Well of course I'm going to test at home, lol, but yeah they schedule your beta at 13 or 14 dpo no matter what. They said even if you get AF they still do a beta because you just never know. But I like to be prepared before they call (so I don't burst into a million tears at work), so I always take a home test the day or two before. I think I'm going to take one on Sunday which will only be 11 dpo....but what can I say, I'm anxious!!! lol! I'll let you know!

I did lupron to prepare for my ivf cycle. The needle was so small I barely even felt it. I actually did my shots in my upper thigh. The nurse told me to save my stomach for the follistim that I started next. If you are on multiple injectibles that may be an option for you.

I start Lupron Sept. 25th for 10 to 14 days. After reading all the responses i feel better about the process. I hope you don't have any side affects.
