Depending on what they find inside has an impact on your recovery time. It was found that I had endo all over, and I was out of work for a solid week. I definitely recommend the procedure though before spending any more money on treatments, because it helps to know that everything is ok inside, regardless if they had to clean something up or not. I liked having something wrong that they could fix, because I felt it in a way gave me answers as to why nothing was working. However 6 mos post lap, i'm still not successful. Hoping you continue w/ the procedure, and you are able to get some answers! P.S. Be sure to discuss w/ your RE in detail about what you would like him to do while he's in there. I've heard of so many people getting the surgery done, and they wake to hear "oh yeah, you had tons of endo, but I didn't remove any of it." Granted those are generally OB's doing surgery, but still just something to keep in mind! Good luck!

I say do it! I wish I had done mine sooner and definitely before our IVF in the fall because there is a good chance it would have not ended in a mc.

Since my old RE did not think I had any signs of endo etc he did not think it was worth it. Even after my mc he was all, "well if it would make you feel better we can do it".

We went to get a second opinion and our new RE said lets do a lap before you waste any more time. It was the best thing we could have done. Turns our I had stage 3 endo with lots of adhesions, 2 tiny fibroids and a uterine septum (the most likely cause of my mc).

Like Nelly said. Recovery time really depends on what they find, how handle pain and what you do for work. My lap was on a Thursday and I was at work by Monday. Although even if my lap had been Friday, I probably would have still been back on Monday. I was rather sore and moved slow for a good week+ but I sit at work all day so going back after 4 days was not too bad. If you think you wont be able to take too make extra days off work, I would shoot for having surgery Thursday or Friday and plan on taking those 3-4 days off with the weekend.

Definitely try the procedure to see what is going on in there. It could answer a lot of questions and possibly fix a problem. I too am worried about IF affecting my jobs. See if you can schedule it on a Friday and then have the weekend to recover? Best of luck to you!!

Nellysgirl is absolutely right, your recovery is completely going to depend on what they find and what, if anything, they do about it. I had my first lap in December where they found a ton of stage 4 endo, but all they did was remove a large endometrioma from my left ovary. The surgery was on a Friday and I took the entire following week off from work although, truth be told, I probably could have gone back on Wednesday and been just find. Recovery wasn't too bad, I was just stiff and sore.

My second lap was in May, and the surgeon removed almost all of the endo that was left in by the last surgeon plus removed multiple endometriomas from both ovaries. I'm going to be totally honest with you: recovery was absolutely horrendous. I know part of the problem was that I was on narcotics for pain prior to the surgery so they didn't work as well for me after, but I literally thought I was dying because the pain was so bad.

The good news is that if you *do* have severe endo, I can pretty much guarantee that you're going to wake up and be told that none of it was removed, so you probably won't have a tough recovery in that respect. And I say "good news" with quite a bit of sarcasm. Good luck with your surgery, I hope they find something mild and are able to fix it and that this is your ticket to your BFP. I totally agree with what the other ladies said on here. After 4.5 years of TTC I had a lap. I had no symptoms that anything was wrong with me other than not being able to get pregnant and chronic low back pain. I had a lap in February and was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endo. The OB did the surgery and not the RE. Come to find out way later, the OB only removed the endometrioma off my ovary but pretty much left all of the other endo in there. He thought I would need Lupron for 6 mos after but the RE said no and to resume TTC. Almost 6 months later and I am now scheduled for another Lap with an RE. He is going to remove as much as possible including a small septum that was left in there and told me to try IVF immediately after. I suggest asking lots of questions before hand and make sure DH takes a notebook or records what the doc says after surgery. It's really confusing stuff and my poor DH did not do a good job of relaying the info to me which left me a nervous wreck. Good luck!!

i have had several laps and was out for several days with each. they filled your belly with gas in order to get things thru so they can see and it makes you very bloated. i always get really bad rib and shoulder pain from the gas pushing on everything but its worth it to see what is going on.

Hi, I recommend it, I had been trying to concieve for a couple of years when I was referred for a HSG, the results came back very confusing, (basically parial occlusion on one side and hydrosalpinx on the other )
The RE suggested I have IVF, but after researching a bit I realised that hydro may make IVF a waste of time so I requested a Lap to get a clearer picture and maybe clip the tubes with hydro. (I had to sign consent for this)
Sadly afterwards it turned out that both tubes were blocked and with hydros so they clipped them both to prevent ectopics and and although this left me clinically infertile, strangely enough somehow that felt better than the not knowing!!!
I relaxed more after I knew the deal and knew the next step in the plan of action.
I recovered really well and the worst part was the sore shoulder for a few days after! (well that and the sterility)
