Seriously though weight loss problems, tons of pills, weird ovulation or no ovulation at all, periods all over the scale but way off normal. I wish it was better news, it's not intense, well not for me, but it does get you down emtionally and you'll get sick of hearing that a new problem is related to PCOS.
Buy a good pair of tweezers, best advice I ever got. Twice a month I have to pluck my chin so my husband won't notice.
Most doctors, from what I have seen, will tell you to lose weight (or go on a diet) or will put you on pills: Metiformin if they want to treat the PCOS "insulin resistance" or Clomid to get you to ovulate and improve infertility.
PCOS is so different in everyone. There is a PCOS support group on DS that may give you a better idea of some of the issues people face.
Good luck to you!
ditto what the other ladies said. :) I would recommend seeing an endocrinologist over a PCP based on my experience. My PCP did nothing for me, but my endocrinologist is fabulous and I am starting to see some progress.
you can expect to have to get some labwork done every once in a while. and while everyone is different, most women experience ovulation problems, trouble losing weight, hormone issues, depression/anxiety, trouble conceiving, excess facial hair, high testosterone levels, insulin resistance, "pre-diabetes", and more.
Like Amber said, be proactive and ask your doctors lots of questions. tell them what is working for you and what is not.
if you're trying to get pregnant I would recommend seeing a reproductive endocrinologist. however, if you are not trying to conceive a regular endocrinologist will be very helpful.
good luck! and welcome!! :)
