Friday my husband and I went to a fertility specialist. We had went to one 4 years ago and they didn't give us any hope. They did a sperm test on my husband and just automatically assumed there was no hope and we shouldn't even continue to try on our own. Well we decided to not listen to them and we have continued to try on our own, never giving up. 4 years later it still has not happened for us... We went to an amazing doctor on Friday and he tested everything with both of us. We are waiting on the sperm and blood results but he did a sonogram on my ovaries and I found out 4 years later into infertility, I have PCOS. If a doctor would have just listened to us a long time ago I would have been made aware of this and could have started the metformin before now. I start taking the metformin today and we are supposed to get our other results on Wednesday. He was very confident that IVF would work for us, but it's a scary process. What if it don't work? How in the world am I going to afford this? We want a child so badly but how are we supposed to be able to take out a loan and pay $15,000+ and then once the baby gets here be able to afford to take care of them the way they deserve. We're willing to do whatever we have to to become parents and if IVF is the only way, then we will find a way to pay for it, just overwelms me to think about. Does anyone have any suggestions for IVF?
So sorry that you have to go thru this. I also have PCOS and Prolactima (also didnt know that until 3 years later when we went to a specialist) and have been told by an endocrinologist, an ob/gyn and RE that "there's no reason why it won't happen, it might just take a while." Well, we're still at it and they added some unexplained IF on there too. I was on metformin but i stopped b/c it wasn't agreeing with me and wasn't working. The same day you went to your FS, i went for my 2nd round of IUI. I'm expecting the BFN (big fat negative) and therefore assuming that the next step will be IVF. (I'm on a medicine that they will probably have to stop next month b/c it's usually given for only one year, and i'm not sure they will see a point in doing another round of IUI) especially if IVF is more likely to succeed. Anyway, the reason i just told you all this is to show you that you are not alone. My husband and i just had the IVF discussion 2 hours ago; "for so many people they get pregant with little effort, and yet we have to pay $15,000 to have a child?" Where are we going to come up with the money, and just like you said - what if it doesn't work? There are so many questions, and to be honest, i can't look into the IVF thing right now b/c it is just way to overwhelming. While i don't have any suggestions, i can tell you that i totally relate and understand how you are feeling. If you hear of any good suggestions though, please pass them along?
