My DH and I started TTC back in July of 2009, and I'm now seeing an RE for the first time and have finally gotten some answers! When we first realized there was a problem - not only was I not getting pregnant, but I also wasn't getting a regular period so it was hard to time ovulation - I saw an OB/GYN. I got testing done through them, which took forever because of scheduling appointments and not getting a period. Everything came back normal until the HSG, where they said one of my tubes was blocked. They finally referred me to a specialist - I wish they had done that in the first place! But I never ended up seeing a specialist then (this was in June of 2011) because my husband had to leave his job due to an injured back, and everything got put on hold for over a year. It was agonizing going all that time not knowing what was really going on.

At our first consultation with the RE, she diagnosed me with PCOS - that's what was causing my irregular periods, and she was able to see on an U/S that my ovaries were polycystic. All this time, I thought I didn't have PCOS because both of my sisters have it, and even though I have an irregular period, I still get mine, whereas they would barely get one at all. Not to mention, I had two OB/GYNs act like my irregular periods were normal, and one even said I probably didn't have PCOS because I don't have bad acne. I hate to say this, but going to an OB/GYN for IF is such a waste of time! They're good for pap smears and for when you are pg, but other than that, I feel like they don't want to be bothered.

I just finished all my testing with the RE (had the HSG test redone, and both my tubes are open, the one tube probably just spasmed during the last test), and I took Clomid and have been getting U/S's done to see when I will be ovulating. The last two times I went in, I had no mature follicles and my lining was thin. I'm going in again tomorrow, which is day 20, hoping that I will have some results. My one sister went to the same RE and got pg on her second cycle of Clomid! So I've been more hopeful now than I've ever been in these last three years, but I'm worried I'm getting my hopes up too much. Especially since I may not even be responding to Clomid; the nurse already talked to me about possibly needing to try a different med.

So even though it sucks to have PCOS, I'm at least glad to know what's wrong. I feel for anyone who has unexplained infertility. Sorry for going on for so long. Wishing you all the best, and sending lots of baby dust to everyone! :)
