For some reason I think PIO does best in the bum. But would not hurt to ask your nurse if you can do the thigh.

I found icing and massaging helped some. But there were seriously days I felt like I was walking funny because my rear end was so sore. Good luck to you!

Butt worked best for me. Warm the oil by gripping the syringe with your hand before injecting- just a few minutes. Switch cheeks, obviously. Massage injection area to distribute the oil. Those tips made a ton of difference with me. How long have you been on the shots? After two weeks, I felt fine. I'm thinking it may hurt injecting into your thigh- just a thought, though.

They had me do mine in the hip. I iced before the shot, used a vibrating back massager on the spot for about 5 min after, and then 5 min in a hot shower. No matter what it's an ouchie part of the process. Good Luck!

I found short walks helped a lot to get the muscle moving and absorbing the oil faster after shots. It kept me from getting the knots that lasted for days/weeks. I also warmed the oil by putting the vial in my bra for a few minutes and used a warm rag and massage on the injection site afterward.

In the old diagrams and some of the older fertility how to videos they show ladies doing intramuscular shots in the upper leg/thigh but my RE told me they do not recommend that anymore because there are more things you can accidentaly hit and really hurt yourself. My hubby purchased a topical lidocaine cream. (I think our brand is LIdocream5 with Aloe) I always circle the shot zone with my blue sharpie and slather that lidocaine on about two minutes before shot time and it does an EXCELLENT job of numbing the bum.
This sounds kind of creepy/dangerous but since we use such a masssive needle gauge the lidocaine does go in with the needle puncture and temporarily (about a week) Numb that one area and I always encourage hubby to find that 'sweet spot" I never feel the needle go in. I did ask the nurse if this was a dangerous thing and she said not at all if I don't mind one ugly bruise from hitting the same area constantly. If I can't feel the needle I will put up with a bruise on my butt any day.

Can I ask what injections your talking about? I havnt had to do one in my bum yet and apart from the one of trigger injection I dont think ill have to? Maybe i'm wrong?

I had lidocaine cream for all of my progesterone shots and I didnt feel any of mine either. I would massage after when I did mine because sometimes the know would uncomfortable later from the oil it was in. I also would get my hubby to hold the syringe with the meds in for a few minutes (his hands are always so warm). Hope it works! :)

Nedico- You might be on progesterone suppositories. Some clinics(including mine) use them believing they are just as effective as the progesterone in oil. I however have opted for the shots this cycle because my insurance only covers the injectable medicine and I got my first UTI on the suppositories. Not to mention the suppositories are 3-4 times a day and can be messy. But (and there is a butt) for some the mess and inconvenience is worth not having a sore butt.
